PS3 - 80GB vs 40GB

Hey fellas. I think I've decided to go with the PS3. I have a question with regarding the 40GB system vs the new 80GB. I figure since I'm just getting my PS3 now, I might as well go with the 80GB system, but with limited availability I don't know if I'll be able to get my hands on one.

What is the difference between the 40Gb and 80GB systems other than the additional memory space?

As far as I remember, 80gb has backwards compatibility, and many card slots; which the 40gb version either doesn't have at all, or is limited.

the 80GB does have B/C but its emulation......the Only PS3 that has true B/C is the rare or hard to find 60GB

What's the difference between true backwards compatibility and emmulation? Does the hard drive have to store the whole game or something?

the older models have the ps2 on a chip inside the ps3, so it ran the emulation better. The new way just uses software, which is what the 360 uses. It'll work, but the quality depends on how the game was coded. So some games will run better on software emulation than others.

Despite the fact I have a 60GB with the PS2 chip, I honestly think the emulation might be a better move from here on out. They can always improve on the emu in firmware updates to the point of making PS2 games look better on the PS3 with enhanced effects.

I'd go with the 80 gig because 80 gigs is like double the 40 gig system.

What sucks is if you don't have an 80GB PS3 already, you'll be hard-pressed to find them in a store, I'm affraid. I start my vacation tomorrow and was thinking I'd get one. Unfortunately, every Gamestop I've called is sold out. I wonder how long it will be until they restock or if there will still be any Metal Gear bundles made available.

There's been a ton of guessing about this and no one really knows. I talked to my Gamestop manager and he said he was probably going to get 2 a week in for awhile so it'd be difficult but not impossible to find.

Yeah, I found one! Went to the Wal-Mart by my house to pick up some milk and they had one. I had that impulse buy feel and took it.

Now, do I get rid of my 360 now and play MGS4 until NCAA comes out or do I play GTAIV a little more? Decisions, decisions. My room looks like ground zero of a video game testing facility right now.

Keep both or you'll regret it down the road when one system has a game exclusive. Unless you're hurting for money of course I don't see why a lot of people feel that they can only own one or the other.
