So, I've heard different things about retroactive trophies every other page. If you can, please allow me to hear the answer to this question loud and clear so I know what I can do:

Can I progress in my currently owned games (S.K.A.T.E. and GTA IV), pass potential trophy unlocking events, and retrieve them later when the game enables the trophy feature?

I'm not talking about taking someone else's file from online or anything... I'm just talking about my own save file. I've also heard that it has something to do with syncing it to my PSN ID, but I didn't understand that for one second.


Thanks to anyone that can help me here. I'm wondering if I should keep going in my games or if I should wait.

Those games won't be retroactive. I think the only games tied to the PSN ID are Devil May Cry 4, Rainbow Six Vegas, and Burnout Paradise.

On top of it, I doubt very seriously Skate will receive a trophy update. I do believe GTA will get one though.

PSN is different than XBL. You're still thinking in the XBL way of doing things, since it's a closed network, and MS has all the control, they update and every game follows. With PSN, Sony updates the network, but can't update the games because it's not on them.

Yeah but xbl cant make a game have sprinting or invite a friend in the menus. But they have to meet the dashboard requirements and online access.

The updates do work, but Sony isnt programming the games, the developers are. If they dont put a feature in it wont support it. Its like if the developers dont put a sprint button in, Sony cant just create it, its not supported

Xmb and sprinting are way too different things. Xmb is Sony product while sprinting/or not is part of the game product. I thought point was to play music over the game not through the game. Why would we need developers to patch that? That something Sony should be able to do on their own unless Microsoft has a patent on that.

It could be that running the XMB, playing music AND playing a game at full power was too problematic, especially if a game was utilizing most of the system's power (albeit inefficiently).

Pared, do you mean that it would be too much power on their end, but if a game developer were to release a patch themselves, it would relieve stress for Sony with their in-game XMB?

I think right now, they still are using too much power for the XMB. Give them a few more releases and music will be in more universally once the XMB continues to shrink in size.

Yeah, they've been constantly working on bringing this down...I'd bet that Home will bring things down quite a bit more, I'd expect that would be a big recompile of code and will allow them to optimize a lot more.

They should have just cut down on the XMB.

I don't need to see all of my videos and pictures while playing a game. Doesn't make sense to me.

Thing is all this time people wanted in-game XMB. What they actually wanted is the Guide like in the Xbox. Xbox doesn't have a in-game dashboard, it is just a smaller Guide with everything centralized. I would have been fine with the PS3 having it like that as well but everyone wanted in-game XMB. They delivered. Over time I'm sure OS will be trimmed and more of those features that don't work now will work later on.

Thing that sucks about this update the most is waiting for Trophy updates for actual games. PSN games are fine and all but bring on the full title patches!

well, it looks like the update crashed my PS3 Should I call Sony Support or can I get a new system since I have a 1 year waranty?

If within the first year, they send you a brand new one after you send yours in. Make sure you have your receipt just in case.

Yeah but some people act like 2.40 is the last firmware update. Not saying anywhere here does but the internet overall. They could have delayed for in-game invites and 2.40 would be out even longer. They decided to give us what they have now and work on in-game invites for a future update. Got to set the stone somewhere and start building. It can only get better now though.
