If the new firmware is not back up by the time I get home from work I'm going to try it. I have the warranty from BB I'll just get a new console if it bricks it. I will of course make a backup of the whole system first with my external hard drive.

Thanks Paul. I have a 60gb.........if something happens, I also have a warranty through BB and I can just grab and 80gb at that point. I am an impatient person.

I have the 60gb, and I have yet to download, I don't have a warranty, so I'm not sure if I should download until everything is ok from sony.

I have a 60gb as well and downloaded the update Tuesday night and have not had any problems.

I would say if you have a 20/60GB system, use it. Seems like those that have the least problems own that model.

40GB's stay away... not sure about the 80's... maybe someone can chime in.

I have a 40GB. Just got it on the 21st in fact. No issues with 2.40 whatsoever.

That's not to say I won't encounter them, though.

Mine was fine on Tuesday night...40GB...and yesterday I tested out a burned DVD and it worked fine too. I dunno, I haven't played that much, nor have I gotten any trophies either...

I too have the best buy warranty. Gonna try the download. If it bricks, ill take back to exchange it.

Football, little known fact if you have the original receipt, you can send it in, just say its freezing with GTA 4 and they will exchange it for free, Its called the "one time good faith gesture" lots of people have been doing it. They will send you a refurbished that is just as pretty as the new black one, and yes they will give you a 60gb back, but not the one you send in. I did it just to have a newer PS3 and I got it back in a week and my new born on date was 07/07

Did anyone try Fish's file yet? I am curious, but also worry about problems. LOL! I will give it a few more hours and if no update from sony, I will update.

No trophy support for COD:

Hey Everyone -

With the latest Playstation 3 firmware now available, I see a lot of questions regarding how it effects Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

At this time, we have no plans to patch in Trophy support for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the PS3. Much like DualShock rumble addition to the PS3, the support for these new features have come much to late for us to add it to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare due to our current production schedule.

We would have loved to have these in the game at launch if the support was available, or shortly after.

No trophy support for Civilization Revolution.

Civilization Revolution will not support trophies. When we designed the game, before trophies were out, we did not plan on supporting the upcoming feature, and we are not going to add it.

Oddly enough, I read that the IT team over at Sony/Folding@Home is interesting in making a trophy system for that. Pretty smart if you ask me.

I hate hearing that these developers won't add trophies to some existing titles, but it would be cool if they would allow Sony Development teams with their approval to go and add some kind of trophies themselves. I think in the article I had posted from IGN, one of the Sony guys had said that Trophies will be mandatory sometime in the fall with all new games moving forward.

try it just tell them you just bought GTA4 and its freezing at the opening cut scene and just sound a little aggravated and say you've reset the PS3 and intalled the game multiple times. I told him mine was out of warranty and all my other games work just not GTA 4 and thats when he proceed with the "one time good faith gesture" of sending you another PS3 that comes with a limited 90 day warranty.

I know I wouldn't allow Sony to go back and tinker with the code if I was one of these companies.

It is understandable though. Many of these games came out a year or so ago and many of these developers are now deep into other games. Insomiac team is well into the R2 game while IW is working on many other titles. They just might not have the resources to go back to add trophies and I agree with them.

I still hope though some of the bigger studios release patches for games like GTA or MGS since those were recently released.
