Microsoft Re-Designing 360 D-Pad

A subtly redesigned Xbox 360 controller has been spotted on the showroom floor at this year's Games Convention in Leipzig, sporting a new-feel d-pad that addresses the previously unresponsive and spongy model.

While aesthetically identical to the previous controller, the d-pad has been re-engineered to offer more instant control, with an eight way input taking place of the previous four. A brief hands-on with the controller playing Pro Evolution 2009 proved that the redesign has been effective, with the d-pad sitting in a larger rocker and proving more tactile.

It's expected to release at the same time as this year's Pro Evolution Soccer, and the re-design is thought to have been inspired by the imminent release of Street Fighter IV.

We'll have photos of the new controller - though don't expect to see the difference - and further impressions later on.

They're like the David Stern of consoles... fixing everything except what really needs the attention.

The Greek origin word for "MICROSOFT" is difficult to spell, but it's the same word that describes when a dog tilts his head to the side and gives you the "WTF" look.

I don't think I've ever used the dpad.

That's why they've re-designed it. It's terrible.

Try and play a fighting game on it... actually, don't. Save your thumbs.

If they do this, I'll actually go back and pick up some old fighters like SF2T and UMK3.

You wanna know how bad their D-Pad is? I'm a guy who exclusively used the D-Pad on every console i've owned. I've tried using the D-Pad on the X360. It just doesn't work so now i've now completely gotten into using the sticks about 99% of the time.

i've talked to several gamestop and eb stores and they say that the RROD is basically non-existent since the new run of consoles. it's mostly older generation consoles now. who knows how true that is.

I hope they redo the d-pad, or else I will have to get Street Fighter for the PS3 (when I get one), instead of the 360.
