Apple to enter the console market?

What do you think? More and more rumors are starting to emerge about this possibility.

I for one would LOVE to see Apple give MS, Nintendo & Sony a little competition.

I've been a Mac user for YEARS and love what they do with design and usability so a console from Apple just might be an awesome thing for us gamers.

Hmmm... I wonder what it would be like? Maybe something innovative like the Wii?

Well if the system started with iTunes, its media library would be larger then the 360 and PS3. Another advantage Apple could play on is the functionality of the iPod.

Of coarse you can use your Zune with your 360 and your PSP with you PS3, but Apple could do some interesting things with a console paired up with an iPod.

A great thing about that idea is that Apple does not have to convince a huge number of people to buy an iPod for the console, due to the fact that a wide majority of people that own MP3 players own iPods.

Imagine using your iPod Touch or iPhone to pick your plays in a Madden game. Or the iPhone itself could be the systems microphone. Send messages through your iPhone rather then doing it on screen.

Just thinking of the possibilities gets me all excited!

If they made a console, I don't think they would meet present day expectations for video games. I'm not for the idea, and I don't see it happening.

It would actually be the opposite. If you compare Microsoft Windows PC's to Macs, Macs last longer. And I'm not a Mac fanboy or anything; never even owned one.

I'd knock them for potentially releasing a new sku every few months but Sony and Microsoft already do that this generation...

I don't see Apple as a viable company capable of putting up the money to release a world wide console system and succeed.

If anything, EA is probably the most capable as they have deep pockets. Imagine if they made Madden Football their exclusive first party title. How many would actually go out and purchase a system to have the only NFL football game in town? Just a thought on how EA could screw us over and still make money hand over fist if they did put out their own console.
