Maybe I'm irrational and hypocritical, or maybe the optional aspect makes it ok, but I really don't mind popping in a new game and waiting 5 minutes. Hell, I can get it going then take off my shoes, grab a drink, etc.

Just found this amusing, we've all been hating on the PS3 required installs and yet we've been loving the 360 install feature.
Some games don't offer anything. The biggest thing about this is the noise factor I would say. With the PS3, it already was whisper quiet and as EG said, mandatory.

I'm sure with newer games, developers will really start to code with HDD in mind. This is the way it should have been since 05.

Most of that is likely reserved for swap space, ie memory buffer for RAM overruns.

I would say so. My PS3 is extremely quiet. My 360 with NXE and NCAA on the harddrive, I can't even tell it is on. Not by sound atleast. So they are pretty close.

The 360 barely even makes a noise with installs. It's really nice. I used to have to turn the TV up because of the damn spinning noise. Now I can turn the TV down a bit because there's no sound from the 360 at all really.

Sony Movies Now Available On 360's Netflix

There was a problem last week when the New Xbox Experience rolled out - and Netflix support rolled out along with it - yet Sony's movies were unavailable. Boneheads made conspiratorial mutterings. Netflix were more sensible.

The online movie company issued a statement last week saying "we hope they’ll be licensed for Xbox 360 shortly". When Netflix say "shortly", they mean "shortly", as (most of) Sony's movies are now up and available for download. Least, the important ones are. Go knock yourselves out.

Well I caved and bought a VGA cable for my 360 cause of the ability to adjust the resolution (unlike my component cables). I must say, its noticeably better with this monitor. Things just look cleaner and smoother compared to when I tried using the HD on this thing.

Yeah, I kept going back and forth between HDMI and VGA. I think I've finally settled on the VGA cables giving me a much cleaner picture. The colors aren't as vibrant and bright but the jaggies are almost non-existent.

Yea I have tried Component, HDMI, and VGA. I settled on the VGA because it is really crisp. Then with the new options for 1440x900 I am in hog heaven.

Also if you are using VGA, make sure ya black reference level is set to expanded. I get the deepest blacks that way.

I would suggest all members who have the ability to go VGA do so. After many test VGA is the only connection that is doing 0-255 color space correctly.

HDMI is doing 16-235 color space not 0-255. This is an issue with the 360 which hopefully can be patched with a firmware update.

Found a trick to download the Gears of War 2 "Hope Runs Deep" and "Bare Your Teeth" premium themes for free if you downloaded the regular themes when they were available.

Go to your download history and find those 2 themes, and download again. It seems that they replaced the old themes with the premium ones and it will let you get the premium ones for free.

I use VGA just because I can (and it frees my 2 HDMI ports for DVR and PS3)...I get just as good quality via VGA and I do the optical audio for everything anyways, so it works great.

Thanks for the tip. I was wondering which reference level to select.

Didn't they say your old themes would still work? 2/3 DON'T! I thought it was due to this being a different system though I was connected to XBL so I DLed them again but they still didn't work.

What color is VGA? I'm not sure if I have it. Compoent perfomance seems to be rather poor compared to the PS3 with HDMI. Especially in the sound department. No HDMI on this 360 even though it's from May of this year.

While I'm here,is there any way to have games switch to their native setting automatically like on PS3 or is it just going to upscale everything to 1080p?

Scratch the theme thing. Those inept clods didn't re-lisence anything at all! Find this out AFTER already hitting download again on everything too wich meant I had to do it again.
