PS3 Blu ray

This is probably a dumb question, but can you play a regular dvd on the PS3 blu ray player? or on any blu ray player for that matter? Or are blu ray players only specifically compatible with blu ray dvd's?

Yes, you can play any dvd.

They can play any CD's as well (PS1 games, in other words). I think even the 40 GB PS3's are capable of running PS1 games.

I'm trying to look for proof now, but I know I've seen that mentioned somewhere.

Best I can do for now - the 40 GB user's guide, page 23. It's a chart that shows what formats the system can play, and does list Playstation software in the CD section - PS1 games, in other words. However, there's also a footnote that says PS1 software may play on that system, not "will".

Yes I have played PS1 Tony Hawk and some old Wrestling game, I forget its name on my 60gb PS3.

Most standard DVDs are dual-layer, my PS3 plays those fine. It plays DLs that I burned myself as well.
