So I buy a capture device

Because i want to get videos from my PS3 and put them on my HDD to make a couple of highlight videos with.

Anyhow I plug everything up but for whatever reason after i install the drivers software and directX9, the PS3 won't show up on the capture screen.

I tried everything, hooking the PS3 to the device directly
Hooking the PS3 into a vcr input and the device to the output to no avail.

So I say forget it.. I copy the replays from my PS3 to my exernal HDD

Plug it into my PC to try to import them to Windows movie maker but all I see are the videos folders with the BLUS3017307002008 type number

If I open that folder there are 4 files
The first shows a pic of the game save which is why its called icon, but the others i have no idea. These are the files

Is it even possible to do what im trying to do?

Did you change your video output the PS3 settings?

I did try. Its basically on my 42in LCD via HDMI so when i change it to component , that goes blank of course

I think i tried to set it on automatic too

It should be on composite, not component, if that is the cable you are using.

I meant composite, not component.

Its no way to switch that on an hdtv hooked up with HDMI without it saying choose yes in 30 seconds or the settings will return.

I run and connect it to the device and the screen is blank anyhow.

Yeah, unless I'm mistaken that device requires you to play by watching it on whatever your device is connected to. Don't think you can record and watch in on your HDTV... you'll be playing the game on your monitor.

Right, its plugged into the PC via usb and has a screen like a windows media player screen where you control stop, go, start, record, etc...

The screen stays blank though. Its not like the PS3 can show a HD signal through a composite cable so I know it adjusts automatically.

I only put it back on the HDtv to change the output setting then connected it to the device on my PC via composite.

What you can try to do is disconnect it from the HDTV and connect it to the PC. Then, turn on the PS3 by holding the power button down for about 10 seconds. You should see the PS3 menu up on your PC screen as it auto-detects what it is connected to.

Ill give it a shot when I get home from work. I h ope its that that simple.

I took off the software and reinstalled. Some kid on youtube hooked his 360 up with the same device, go figure. He didnt mention anything about auto detect settings or anything but didnt have to really.
