    VGA cables = No sound

    Hey guys

Here is the issue. I have been running my 360 through my PC and it has worked perfectly fine until about 2 weeks ago when I built my new system.

The new system is running on a FoxConn P45A-S. I have my 5:1 connected to the Line Out (green connection), I then have the VGA adapter - this connected to the Line In (blue connection). Problem is I am not getting sound on this new board.

Now it has to be a Mobo problem, because if I move my 360 to the living room on my other 5:1 the sound works fine. So it has to be a mother board Issue. I have gone through everything since I am pretty decent with computers. All properties are unmuted and volumes raised to max. So it is either a encoder issue, jack is broken, other something else I am not thinking of.

    Any ideas?????????????

If you don't feel like digging into your machine to fix this problem, I'd consider purchasing a cheap pair of speakers to use for sound.

Yea I could always go that route. But I have a good set of 5:1's already so I would like to see about resolving the issue.

See the computer I was running just a week or so back, everything worked fine. Now since I did the new build something about the onboard sound on this FoxConn mobo is not working correctly.

When I am playing a computer game like Left 4 Dead, Far Cry 2, World at war, Sins of a Solar empire ect ect the sound works fine. But when I turn on my xbox I have ZERO sound. Which means the Line out is working correctly since my PC audio works. But it is not picking up the in bound sound coming from the Xbox which leaves me to believe it is either a jack issue (blue connection not working) or a encoder issue that this board has with dolby digital or a realtek driver issue.

But I am stump as far as which it would be. First because I have no experience messing with encoders so that is like greek to me. The driver issue I can test by trying newer or older drivers.

Just wanted to see if anyone else might have a idea I did not think of that could be the issue.

Do you have the latest drivers? Could you test it with a Ipod or something to see if that'll pass it in?

Just guesses, it all just worked when I used to use it to passthrough my PC's sound card, sucks yours isn't!

Oh yea using the pass through (Blue connection - aka Line In) is nothing new to me. It is this board that is the issue.

Even if I connect my I-pod I get zero sound. That is why I believe it is either a jack issue or a encoder issue. It is not a device issue for sure.

Yeah...not sure if you can search for forums on that card/mobo and see if anyone knows....Otherwise you're kinda farked, that stuff's near impossible to tinker with on your own

Uhh not really it is just trial and error. I build computers often and have seen many strange issues with different boards. This is just another one of those strange issues.

I am currently on the Foxconn forums seeing if I can get a answer.

So for with my searching it seems a issue with the Realtek chipset ALC888-GR and vista. I am going to dig a little deeper into this issue.

It was just a shot in the dark over here to see if anyone might of seen or heard of this issue before. I will be able to fix it, it is just going to take me a couple days of tinking.

              ohhhhhhhh the joy

I have a silly question, but have you made sure the line-in on your PC is not set on mute?

Not silly at all. My old computer I was talking about that the 360 sound worked on has this same issue. The line In would mute itself everytime I switch back to the PC sound. It was another odd problem with that board but it was workable. Before starting the Xbox I would just unmute it. Then it was good to go.

On this board everything is unmuted (and stays unmuted) and all the volume on all properties is set to max.

But good question. But sadly I checked that already.

Looking like I am just going to go and buy a New sound card. Instead of using the onboard sound. I ALWAYS use a sound card but this time around I was going to try and get away with the Onboard. Looks like I am going to have to buy the sound card anyway lol.

have you done the new Mobo dance yet?

ok seriously, It'll normally be a Driver issue, or the jack itself. are you using drivers that came with the motherboard, or did you update them with drivers from online? my guess would be that the jack is out.

my 360 is connected to my PC the exact same way.

In this method you also may want to try swearing at your mobo and kicking it.

Same thing I am thinking to Solid. Even the jack is bad or the audio drivers could be causing a conflict somewhere. I am using the most update drivers from online

I would put money on the bad jack though. Because I mean this is not that difficult to setup LOL. I have always ran my 360 this way. Sound has always worked easy as plug and go, adjust a few volume muted options and done.

I have a Creative X-Fi extreme in my old system (I gave it to my girlfriend), I think I am going to pull that card out, throw it in. I should get sound right away. 99% sure it is a bad jack or some odd bug with this board.

I have no idea about the MB (so this may be of no use) you have but at one time I had a MB that had 2 areas with the same ports. I had to select which ones to use and make sure the plugs were set that way on the board to signify which inputs I wanted active....
