I had played Madden and Fallout this morning with no issues, and Head Coach was fine until...
I went to the online section of Head Coach and it told me I needed to update my PS3 to software version 2.6 before I could get online. This seems to have just come out late last night or early this morning.
I did it and upon reboot I have zero sound on my PS3. Not with blue ray, not with games, not in the menus, not even the little orchestral intro when I boot up. I googled and saw one person that had this issue on some UK forum with 2.6. His cleared up after a recycle.
I also checked sony's support site for PS3.
After doing all the recommended step and then some, it still doesn't have any sound.
I recycled the PS3 with the back switch and unplugged all cables and cords. Waited 10-15 minutes and booted back up, three times. No luck.
Recycled modem and router, though I'm not having any trouble connecting to the net with my pc or ps3.
Restored all default settings per the support site. This essentially put me back at square one. I had to set my machine up like it was brand new. Still no luck, even after recycling after the restore.
So I'm still without sound. You can't call PS support and get a person. You get generic help and get directed to the website which is the same generic troubleshooting, none of which has worked.
So, I've sent my problem in online through a service where they will email me back within 48 hours! Wonderful!
Any other ideas? Anyone else had this issue? It's highly irritating considering I was forced to do the update, cannot revert to an old software version once the update is done, and have now traded having sound for some upgraded photo album options! This blows donkey balls.
Any advice or at least others sharing in this misery will help ease the pain. I have a replacment deal at Target, which I'll take advantage of before sending this pile off for repair. I hope it doesn't come to that though.
