MY PS3 ON WONT STAY ON. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

so i get home from work and my brother tells me that he was playing STREET FIGHTER 4 and the ps3 just cut off on him. now it wont stay on.

it comes on for about 30 seconds then u can hear the fan trying to start up but it just dies and then the sysetem cuts off again. im thinking its a power supply or problem or just the fan.

anyone know anywere i can take it to get fixed? i live here in LOS ANGELES. i dont want to lose everything on my hard drive i just want my system fixed. or can i send it in to sony and still be able to get back my system in the process? how long will that take?

please, can anyone help me? i play my system everyday and im pissed. its a 60gb and i bought it on AUG 07'.

I wish I could but I dont know the answer, have you tried just calling Sony and asking them if the HDD is tied into the console or can you swap it without having to reformat? Im sure you can swap it without having to reformat it but I cant say with 100% certainty unfortunately. If your buying a new one then just check it and see if you cant get any answers from Sony or elsewhere. I wish I had a better answer for you but I dont.

thanks chef i really appreciate it. im just so bummed cuz i play my ps3 everday and now i have nothing to play. and i just got SF4 and i was having so much fun with it. plus THE SHOW 09 comes out in a few weeks.

Does it stay on for even a little while when you try to turn it on? Mine would do the same thing, except when I let it cool down it would stay on for roughly an hour before shutting off. If it's like that you might be able to copy over whatever save files you have before it shuts down again.

That said, the problem mine had is apparently rare, as most people get a blinking yellow light when they start it up, and then it immediately powers down...

Does it stay on for even a little while when you try to turn it on? Mine would do the same thing, except when I let it cool down it would stay on for roughly an hour before shutting off. If it's like that you might be able to copy over whatever save files you have before it shuts down again.

it doesnt even stay on for a solid minute before i start hearing a crackling noise and the red light starts blinking and it shuts down again.

Won't be long now untill it does. I would suggest getting any enjoyment out of your downloadable games you can and putting aside $150 if you've got a credit card. If not then you're just screwed unless you get it repaired locally (waiting for my BBB complaint to be dealt with before trying locally as my PS2 failed twice and PS1 also failed so obviously Sony makes ****) cause Sony would perfer to lose customers for some reason. At least untill the next class action law suit comes and based on recent failures that won't be long. And no you won't get yours back if you go through Sony.

Look on craigslist. There are some good people on there that can fix it for like 40 bucks. I had the RROD on my 360 like a year ago and I found some guy on craigslist that fixed it for 40 bucks. He swapped some parts inside and its been going strong ever since. I just got my ps3 last week for The Show.

thats the thing, my ps3 cant stay on to do anything. it doesnt stay literally no longer than a minute before it blinks red again and shuts off. u can hear the fan inside die out.

when i bought my ps3 i also bought a 3 year warranty with target so ill be sending my ps3 to them instead of Sony. they told me the whole process would be about 3 weeks. they also said if i wanted to keep my files i could take out my HDD and just send them my ps3 to fix.

thats why im asking if anyone knows if u can move your HDD from one ps3 to another and still keep what u have on there?

also, do u know where i can get my ps3 fixed locally if i wanted to go that route? i also would like to know for future references.

^ I didn't leave it with them. I stayed right there while they fixed it and I had somebody with me and we were both near 30 yrs old so I wasn't really concerned. Plus the guy was NOT threatening at all. LOL. This guy even had his own website. I did not want to wait weeks before microsoft would send me a new xbox so I decided to wait 20 min and get it fixed locally.

I've never had a problem with Sony sending my stuff back to me.

Yes you could take your Hard Drive out and put it into another system If you bought one...

Why?
What would you end up doing?
