vga vs dvi?

I've been playing my 360 through the vga input on a 22' lcd monitor that i have. I hae the 360 premium so there is no other output except just the standard cables or vga am I right? Anyways my monitor fried and i sent it back to be swapped out and they said they might send me a slightly different model, whatever that means. If the new monitor doesnt have a vga input ill flip. Is there any way to hook the 360 through dvi or is it pretty much standard cables or vga with the premium version? seems kind of weird for an hd setup not to have any hd or digital output? Also is there a big jump in quality between vga and dvi? Ive noticed through vga i get the resolution but it still gives off hte computer screen appearance and its missing some detail. ive seen things on a tv through hdmi and you can notice the difference between the analog and digital signal. when i had a ps3 i can notice the difference as well.

Sorry that was come of jumbled all together but if someone can decipher and answer my question that would be great.

you can get a VGA to DVI adapter.

and VGA can is an HD output, if the monitor/TV can support the resolution. 1080P = 1920x1080. so if your monitor supports that high of a resolution, then your set. although it may or may not look the same as a 1080P TV.

DVI can get a better picture. VGA is an analog signal, while DVI is digital.

I understand but its still coming from an analog signal. you can also purchase the hdmi converter for the older premium 360's so you have an hdmi port. I still have an hdmi to dvi cable i was using for my ps3 before i got rid of it. But its still coming from an analog signal regardless so am i going to be benefitting at all vs just plugging it into vga? That's what i find weird is the 360 was supposed to be hd and it didnt even come with digital output at first which is kind of ridiculous.

I'm thinking of buying that madcatz hdmi convertor. and then just using the hdmi to dvi cable instead. That's the thing. i'm just wondering if its worth $90 for that hdmi converter if i will see much improvement at all vs just using vga. All the converter does is convert the analog signal to digital if i'm not mistaken. So are you really getting the benefits of a straight digital signal?

it works, i've tried it. and the difference between VGA and DVI is not much. DVI is usually a little "cleaner" or sharper, but depending on your monitor, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. it's up to you, both ways will work.

I'm using the VGA to my monitor(my PC is connected to the same monitor by way of DVI), and when i took it to my friend's house who has a 50+ in. 1080P TV, and placed them side-by-side, they look identical(except the obvious that his TV is bigger).

DVI is better than VGA, just that on most monitors, it's not that noticeable.

i have one of those dvi adaptors for my pc, but it has different pin settings. its for plugging it into the video card not the monitor. i tried it and the pin settings were different.

well, there are different types of DVI connections.

DVI-I single(both analog and digital)
DVI-I dual(both analog and digital)
DVI-D single(digital)
DVI-D dual(digital)
DVI-A (analog)



the dual links are basically faster and allows higher resolutions.
