External HDD?

I have a 500 gig external HDD I used to record things like game clips from my PS3.

I recently decided to use it to also take off some of the recordings from my HD DVR because the space was always used up so im constantly deleting the thing.

The DVR had to reformat the HDD to FAT32 and now it seems I cant get it to work compatibly with my pc or record my games on... am I missing something here?

Are you sure you don't mean NTFS? The PS3 can read FAT32 but not NTFS.

Nah it was reformatted in FAT32 again. Dish wouldn't let me do it without allowing it to reformat it again... I know that sounds weird but thats how it is.

I tried to record from my hava titanium wifi HD and it couldnt even read the drive.

When i plug it into my pc it detects hardware plugged in the usb, but it doesnt recognize anything is connected.

Sounds like you're going to have to format once again.

Didnt want to go through the trouble right now because I didnt want to keep moving the tv shows and stuff around and around, plus my pc memory is getting low, so I just got a 1Tb seagate this morning from Fry's but havent picked it up yet.

I had to reformat my external from NTSF to Fat32 befre I could even use it with my PS3.

So were you using it before on the PS3 with Fat32 format and once connected to your DVR it reformatted it?

Sorry for the miss post, I was in an extended fire alarm break.

If its the DVR check out there site but back up what yuou have already. If its still on the DVR can you just reformat it and try it again. Seeing as the DVR just copied its content on the drive and didn't erase it completely.

If your getting a new drive than make sure its formatted orrectly or just use the DVR to format it to Fat32 and add the ps3 folder to be able to transfer using it as well.

Let us know how it goes. I've been looking for a DVR to backup my TV content as my computer is getting full very quickly and it takes a day and a half to convert to .mp4 (ps3) format.

The dvr warned me to remove everything from the device because it would erase the contents so I did... at that time it was only game stuff.

I only had like an itunes movie and a couple of game movies I made so I did

Any suggestion as to why my pc wont recognize the drive anymore... its so weird.

I'd check out the DVR manufactures website. They may lock it so you can't transfer to PC and just be able to plug it back in and watch it from the DVR
