To be honest, I know these are in the works pics, or just speculation pics, but I'm not buying that these are real. I'm just not. From looking at the pics, the design looks crappy.

Supposing these pics are real, I think it looks pretty sexy. Having just bought a new PS3 less than a month ago, I'm kinda jealous.

Why don't they just have a slim version to begin with? Do they magically come up with some new technology all of a sudden to make everything smaller?

if by magic, you mean that after years of production, the ps3 parts are cheaper to manufacture and easier to bring down in size, then yes.

This also does look rather cheap, like if McDonald's threw a ps3 in their kids meal.

Both Sony and MS have a range of models, but they're all essentially the same as the other models, just bundled with games or a larger HDD. It's a nice way they can charge more for almost nothing.

The ps2 slim came out like 4 years after the ps2 released, I believe, so it's not too out there to see this happening soon for the ps3. If it allows them to make them cheaper, while selling them cheaper, it's a win for them. Just cutting the price on the ps3 won't work as well as this, since MS can take the air out of that with another price drop.

No matter what they do they're going to eventually have to lower the cost of this machine or they'll be stuck in the same spot no matter what.

Love the system though, its a piece of work.

I have high doubts about the legitimacy of these images.

That being said, while I love my PS3 the way it is, a (good-looking) slim one would make me a little jealous.

And 23, I'm quite certain that if something like this happens, something will happen to the price as well.

Whle my first inclination was to call foul, they do make a valid point about the box. The pics of the system look kinda fake, but the box looks legit as hell

See above... cheaper parts, smaller parts, more efficient manufacturing processes, etc.

True, I noticed that too. I'm still calling BS at this point, though (on that specific design, not on the fact that a redesign is coming).
