How and When Did You Get Your Series X/S/PS5?

I was just sitting and thinking back to 2021 and how much of a wild time it was. Got me to thinking back to how difficult it was to get a console, being in the midst of Covid. Remember how people would use bits to buy up consoles and then sell them for insane prices? How about the bundles from GameStop and Best Buy? So, when and how did you get yours?

I was able to get the Series S first. It was on the 4th of July 2021 and I actually had Covid at the time. I found it online at Target, my sister went to get it for me and dropped it off at my front door. A little over a month later, GameStop was doing one of their bundle drops. A YouTuber I had found in Twitter was doing a live where he would let everybody know when the drop took place, and tips on how to get it quickly. I was in that live chat and as soon as the drop went live I F5 my work PC to death lol. I was able to get one in my cart and pay for it quickly, and it was delivered 3 days later. How about you all?

Both were breezy for me due to luck I think. I remember getting in early on the Amazon pre-orders for the PS5. I also got the Xbox Series S through pre-orders, but that one I got through Best Buy pre-orders online. So I got both day one on my front doorstep. It was probably the simplest process for me ever.

I remember as a kid getting a PS2 for Christmas (mom bought it on ebay), which is my fave present to this day because it was such a good surprise how it was unveiled in a normal bag. I remember getting an Xbox 360 at the mall at Gamestop right around Thanksgiving -- that was probably one of the crazier ones since I had been on a "list" but they were only getting a couple every couple weeks so I got it post-launch and they were like deathly worried about me as a teenager getting mugged in the parking lot so they hid the console in a non-descript bag. I remember the Xbox One being easy to get as well at launch, but I don't remember how I got the hulking $600 bones PS3 at launch -- but def had one.

My favorite story is finding a Super Nintendo in the closet as a super young kid right near Christmas, but mind you I had asked for a Nintendo 64. My mom got the wrong console, which was very funny.
I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I write it, and it hits your inbox every Friday morning (for freeeeeee). We also have an official OS Discord you can now join.

I got my Series X by walking into a Walmart on launch day and getting one for myself and my brother. The PS5 I was able to get one on Best Buy's site by spamming the refresh button forever on launch night.

My worst grab was the Xbox 360. I stood in line from noon to midnight and was lucky to get one. I've been fortunate to get things without hassle. I recently got a Switch 2 preorder, but can't seem to get my hands on a 5090

I remember getting both pretty early on in their life cycles. I absolutely refuse to ever pay a scalper anything, and so I didn't get them at launch. I think I got both systems within about 6 months of launch. I remember the xbox being relatively east to snag, I wasn't even looking for one necessarily. The PS5 I happened to catch a restock at Best Buy a couple of months after launch.

I remember just before Christmas in 2020 being able to get a PS5 into my online cart at Best Buy. But I was pretty happy with my PS4 Pro and decided I didn't need it. Who knows if I actually would have been able to check out with it if I had decided to buy it.

At some point I signed up for PlayStation Direct and got the email I could buy one in September of 2022. So that's when I finally got one.

Got the PS5 Pro for Christmas. Didn't know what else to ask for and fortunately Santa was able to bring me one. I still need to sell my OG PS5.

January 2023 right around MLK day, just randomly decided to check a few sites to see if PS5s were in stock and lo and behold the PlayStation site had some and I was able to buy one. However, it apparently had issues right from the start. It would sometimes refuse to power on or randomly lose power. It was rather intermittent at first, but around October/November of that year it started getting worse to the point that I couldn't get it to turn on at all. I tried contacting PlayStation to get service but got frustrated as the site kept sending me in circles and eventually I just got so frustrated that I just bought a new one on Amazon (this one a Slim model after the 1st was a 'fat' model) That has worked perfectly ever since. Shortly after I ordered the nw one, I was finally able to get a service ticket and sent the original out for service, but I don't think they did anything with it. It's still sitting in my closet in its box and the controller is also broken after I slammed in on the floor in frustation at the system not turning on.

Got my Xbox Series S during the pandemic, got my PS5 like 2 or 3 years into it but I had to go the HSN route for the PS5 since every retailer was doing those limited online drops.

I wasn't interested in a PS5; the only reason I bought one was for my daughter, and the only reason she wanted it was because she heard it was hard to get. I accepted the challenge.

I got it during the craze of its early release. I happened to be in Walmart and got in line after asking people what was going on. Someone told me an app said that particular Walmart was getting an incoming shipment and other people in line confirmed it, so I waited.

After catching major attitude from multiple employees, a few of them told us to leave. Some of us stayed behind and showed an employee that app, and he empathized. He took our names and phone numbers down and said someone would call us when (not if) the consoles arrived.

I got a call soon afterwards and was told to come to their garden center. The PS5 box was in a larger brown box and an employee walked me to my car without my request.

I bought a PS5 as a last minute decision on launch day. I wasn't planning on getting one until I woke up that very morning. I like trying new tech and I just went on Target.com and submitted an order for pickup same day. In hindsight, definitely not worth the purchase as I rarely used it. There wasn't many games to play that wasn't also on PC. It was basically just a Demon Souls and NBA 2k system.

I got my Xbox Series X in a bundle from the Microsoft Store. It came with the console, Far Cry 6, and an extra controller. I got my PS5 in a bundle from GameStop, Came with the console, two games, and a wireless headset.

Got my PS5 in '22, once they started stocking them and became easier to get. Just signed up for notifications from Sony and shortly after I was able to purchase it. Won't ever do a campout again, did it for the PS3 back in '06. Was a doozy of a day/night

I actually won mime from Taco Bell and it arrived on launch day November 10, 2020. I can not wait until they do another every 15 min code winner, and no I did not eat of the food but I did have a ton of the frozen drinks spent a total of $60.
