I agree with you.... I think they are waiting as well.. they are most likely waiting as long as they can so they can slow down production of the Ps2.. Ps2 is still moving a ton of units for a 10 year old console. If they drop the price enought to make people jump to the ps3, They don't want to be sitting on a ton of consolses that they won't sell. Lets face it, They are probably planning on doing another year of so with the ps2....But a price drop would do wonders for sales on Ps3...On here alone how many people would take the plunge.... We will wait and see but many people have great points.

Yeah, it may continue the sales of PS2 but what about consumers like myself who already own a next gen console (360 or Wii) and a PS2? In order to entice consumers in that section you need to make the PS3 more appealing. Right now all PS3 has going for it is the Blu-Ray player and until they make their entire PS2 library accessible then there is no need in upgrading; since I have a 360 I have no need to purchase a PS3 because there aren't that many 1st party games that are "must haves" for either system, IMO. PS3 is lagging #3 in sales, Sony needs to do something if they don't want to continue to be an afterthought.

Sony doesn't appear to have the moxy to go after the PS2 sales. With all the PS2 units being moved you would have thought that by now Sony would have found a way to have them purchase a PS3 as complimentary or as a replacement.

Take it with a grain of salt, but I heard this idea is dead. The more likely scenario is for a lot of PS2 titles to start making their way onto the PSN.

Yeah, but look at MS and how quickly they dropped the continuation of new titles to BC on the 360. Granted they tried the originals program which didn't work.........but you do get some BC with the 360 vs. what sony has done now. I think that Sony is going to try and copy the 24/7 Game service model.

Not only that, but we would lose all of our memory. I don't want to start a new Power Pros franchise or start over with SSX: On Tour.

well again, to do that they'd still have to be able to emulate the game. Just because it's a digital version doesn't make it any different than the disk. They were built on ps2 hardware, and the ps3 will have to be able to run the games. But yes, at this point, they're only concerned about it for the digital distribution method. It's 3 years into the ps3 now, so you should really be basing a purchase on the ps3 library and features by now.

MS quit doing the BC updates because they cost money and effort, when the feature probably doesn't even affect console sales much years into the generation. Yes, the consumer likes to play their old games, but they can either keep their old console or get over it. Even selling the original xbox games on Live got dropped because MS probably ran into trouble with licensing the games for digital distribution on the 360. Having to secure these would have helped contribute to the $15 price, which was quite inflated over the much cheaper used copies at Gamestop.

The key thing here is how much Sony wants to take a hit versus how much the consumer is willing to toss towards those old classics. The reason the XBOX Originals didn't fly was because you were paying freaking $15 for games you could find at Gamestop. Heck, there are XBOX 360 games that are less than that. If they had those games for a good $3-5, they would have made a killing in no time. It's the greed for more money that has both companies tossing the BC to the vultures. Best bet would be to just purchase a PS2/XBOX and just deal with it like that.

I don't think that price was the biggest issue. Most people were on 20 GB HDD's when they announced this feature. It's pretty stupid to download games that take up like 4 GB's, when the disks are already BC and cheaper.

Unless MS drops the price on the larger HDD's and actually offers a digital distribution discount for the xbox 360 games on demand, even that will fail.
