After searching a good bit in the threads, I didnt find this posted anywhere so if I missed it somewhere, sorry. This is the guide that I use to repair 360's It is easy to use and I am by no means a computer repair man, but I have fixed over 50 360's using this and I just wanted to share with OS. I have put the two quides in an attachment. The first one is how to take your box apart and the second is the actual repair guide. If you follow these directions you will not have any problems fixing the RROD. You dont have to buy the kit, the thermal paste(best is artic silver) can be bought at most radio shacks or computer stores. Also the screws and washers can be picked up at any Lowes or Home Depot. I hope this helps some of you out.

Re: 360 RROD Repair Guide
I am not sure you can say that it is a permanent fix, because it is electronics, and it will wear out someday. I can only say that I have done it with mine back about a year ago and no problems yet. I also have fixed over 50 of them over the last year and not a single problem from anyone.Comment

Re: 360 RROD Repair Guide
The main problem has been the xclamp and a horrible design that only points to failure. With this repair you remove the xclamp and replace with good hardware that will last. Also microsoft uses the absolute cheapest thermal paste for the GPU and CPU and the artic silver has been proven to be far superior. This not only fixes the RROD but also the one red light which is E73 and also the overheat problem. The two lights you get for overheat is either a bad fan or most likely bad thermal paste between the heatsyncs and the CPU and GPU.Comment

If you have a box that is out of warranty and you dont want to throw it away, do this repair(it will cost you about 8 dollars in parts) and then talk to me in about two years and I can assure you that you will be still playing it.Comment

Re: 360 RROD Repair Guide
Im asking because I refuse to spend money on another one of these things because of how cheap they are....
...but if there is an alternative to buying another one, or sending for a box from Texas I might reconsider because I liked the system
That said, has anyone had one die while using the cooler all the time?Comment

Re: 360 RROD Repair Guide
I think the new coolers use external power vice using the xbox's power and thus preventing the overheat. I personally don't use a inter cooler, I changed out my internal fan and put in a whisper fan for about 19.00 and it keeps my board nice and cool.Im asking because I refuse to spend money on another one of these things because of how cheap they are....
