When you're not playing your PS3 for an extended period of time, do you turn it off from the back of the console? I never do it, but I haven't went more than a week or two at the most.

Re: PS3 - How to turn it off?
I leave it on standby (red light) when I'm not using it. I only flip the switch when there's bad weather (and I unplug it too). I do have a surge protector as well, but better to be safe, right?
I used to never turn it off, and I'm pretty sure that's why my first 60 GB kicked it.

i usually always turn mine off when im not using it. even if its only for a few hours. i dont understand the need to have it on all the time if im not even using it. plus i think it can help it to last longerComment

I hardly ever turn off the switch in the back... I just leave it on standby. I like being able to just grab my controller, press the PS button and go.Ryan Spencer

Same here.
IMO, the power spike from frequently turning it completely off and on in the back puts more wear and tear on the components compared to leaving it on standby and drawing a small amount of power. I do the same thing with my computer, I only shut down and cold boot once or twice a month - otherwise I just standby or hibernate it. It's better for the internals long-term, IMO.Green Bay Packers | Milwaukee Brewers | Bradley Braves | Wisconsin Badgers

As stated above, I only turn off from the back if there is bad weather. I love my BC PS3, and if anything should happen to it, someone would pay dearly...Comment

I turn it off all time, it's what I did with my fat Ps2, and that's still working, since it's working the ps2, I'll do it on the ps3.Comment

Re: PS3 - How to turn it off?
I only shut it off from the back when I go out of town. Which will be this weekend apparently. I leave it on for the rest of the time just because I'm lazy and like turning on my ps3 with my controller.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: PS3 - How to turn it off?
I've had 2 consoles, a Japanese 40gbwhich broke due to overheating (don't worry about how) and the current one which is an 80gb. I've never shut either of them off from the back, and I've been a ps3 owner since 2007. I was the same way with my PS2.Comment
