Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
The new PS3 Slim doesn't get hot at all. It stays very quiet, almost too quiet. I can hear the drives running which sounder louder than my old fatty. Maybe it's because the old fan used to drown out those sounds.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
120GB or the 250 GB? Because my 120GB Slim gets hotter than blazes in the back of the unit..."And by the way, you know, when you're telling these little stories? Here's a good idea - have a POINT. It makes it SO much more interesting for the listener!"Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
I was noticing this last night. It kinda had me nervous. I also heard the disc spinning and thought it was the fan. lolOriginally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
Yeah, the slims do this and also add that you hear cracking noises which is the plastic expanding due to the heat during the gameplay and then settling back. I was considering loosening the case screws a bit as I read online it stops the cracking noises.........but it will void the warranty as the sticker is over them.Comment

=( YLOD
I am so frekin sad, Yesterday my ps3 got the yellow light of death after nearly 3 and a half - 4 years of working, I was playing NBA 2k10 and randomly the game froze while I was going in for a layup, (the ps3 had only been on for about 15-20 minutes) and when I was going to turn off my ps3(It was no biggie cause NBA freezes on me sometimes) But it turned off by itself and the red light started flashing, i decided to let it cool down(even tho it wasnt hot) and i got a fan so it would cool faster (LOL) I cleaned it out from the sides and i cleaned the HDD, (tho i didnt completely take it out). To my surprise when I turned the ps3 power switch back on the red flashing light was gone, I jumped, I was still kind of afraid so I let the ps3 turn on than I took out NBA 2k10 from the disk drive and turned off the ps3 again. THE FLASHING LIGHT WASNT THERE. About two hours later I decided to turn on the ps3 and the fans turned on just fine but about 3 seconds letter a yellow light came up for about a second, than a green than a blue than a red again, but than this red light started flashing again -_- Im so F**CKIN sad because I was so hyped for NHL 11 & NBA ELITE 11 & NBA 2K11, could anyone possibly please give me any solutions to fix this? And I will pay if someone comes and fixes (i live in the calgary area)Comment

Honestly I wouldn't get it fixed unless you sent it to Sony and pay the 150.00
I did the fix that is the most popular fix for this. (Search YLOD PS3 on youtube) taking apart the PS3 etc.. etc...
It worked for about 3 weeks and back to YLOD. I seen to many people saying that such and such company did the fix and it failed a month later.
I just said screw it and got a new slim unit.....Joshua:

Re: =( YLOD
Mine died the other day. Figured it was going to happen eventually. Buddy had the same model as me, his died around the same timeframe of ownership. Plus, there was no way for us to control the dust around our apartment. Cleaning the PS3 wasn't helping. Fans were ALWAYS on high.
Think I'm just going to sell it on eBay as broken, take the money, sell a few other games I don't play, and put that together with some Amazon credit I have and buy a slim in the next couple months.
Oh well.Comment

Re: =( YLOD
Just sold my fat 80gb PS3 (the b/c one) and got a 120gb Slim on amazon. I never had an issue with the 80gb in 3 years of owning it...hopefully my luck will continue with the Slim.Comment
