I got an email saying my PS3 is on its way home. I should have it Monday, Tuesday by the latest. I called Sony customer service and the rep says it appears my original PS3 is what was shipped back. The rep said usually when they ship a refurb replacement back out there is a serial number attached to the order, but there was none, so she suspects my original is coming back. I sure hope so. I backed up all my game saves that allow that to a flash drive, but I came home the other day and one of my dogs mistook it as a toy. I was able to get most of the data off the flash drive, but some of it was corrupted.

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
Now you guys have made me paranoid. My Best Buy warranty is officially expired after today. I have a 60 GB that I have had since July 22, 2007. It has been great, but I worry it is ready to go (as a lot of other 60 GB's have gone after 2 years without any previous signs). The only thing I noticed is that it is a lot louder than it used to be (but many think the firmware updates caused the fans to kick in sooner). I am tempted to exchange it for an 80 GB or 160 GB tonight just for peace of mind.

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
Well, I just started the online process for my return. My 60 gig refurb got the YLOD on Friday. (2nd one since launch) Payed the 150 as I was out of warranty.
I was looking at third party support but most charged a nonrefundable 25-40$ for diagnosis. The money does go toward repair IF they can fix it but the only real problem is only one around my area had a warranty and it was only 30 days.
I said screw it, I'll go with Sony. Should be back up an runnin in about 10 days.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
I got my original PS3 back from Sony yesterday, works good again. I played for about 3 hours last night and nothing froze. My red standby light doesn't work anymore though when the system is off. I'm not sending it back in just for that, but it is kind of annoying that they broke that when fixing my blu-ray drive. I know the system is going into standby though because I can power the system back on with my controller.

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
There are no signs untill the first time it yellow lights. Then it works for a bit and does it again. Then it starts working less and less untill it just doesn't at all anymore. It's usually a few months after 2 years based on the list in the Sony forums.Comment
