Almost 2yr old 40gb PS3, died last week. YLOD. I had upgraded it to 250gb HDD. Swapped it back to the 40 in case it was HDD failure. No luck. I'll just put in some holiday hrs at the job and buy a Slim for $299. Maybe in the future i'll try to fix it on my own.

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
Any thought on having a local guy fix the PS3 rather than Sony? I'm wrestling with this decision IF I get the YLOD. My 60 GB is 2.5 years old and I know it could happen to me. I do like the idea of the Slim just based on the fact it's quieter.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
I will guarantee you that I won't pay $150 to have it fixed. I'd rather buy a new PS3 slim (and sell the old one for anything I could get). A local guy will fix a YLOD for $80 so that would be my debate - $80 for a fix of an old machine vs. $300 for a brand new machine with bigger hard drive and warranty.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
That's always a good plan. No doubt you can get more than $80 for a working PS3. And a 60 GB with full backwards compatibility (which I never use) is still liked by some people.Comment

What is it with these next gen systems? Folks are paying too much money to have these things crap out the way they do.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
Mine died Christmas Day. I had only gotten it the July before.
Out of warranty.....I think I just might wait until next Black Friday/Price Drop to pick up a new one. This time I am getting an extended warranty!Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
I think it's officially time that I just send mine into Sony.
It's been seven weeks and I've taken my PS3 apart three times. I don't think I'll be able to fix the problem, though I see the problem right in its face. I think a part broke off of my PS3, which is why I think it stopped working. When I look at it, there's some logic within the system that just isn't making sense in mine. I don't see how my physical PS3 can be repaired, so I fear they'll just be giving me a refurbished one in return.

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
Blz, make sure you reformat/erase/wipe the system clean before sending it out. They say they do it for you but just to be safe...Last edited by Chef Matt; 12-29-2009, 10:53 AM.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon.
