Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread

        Okay, problem!

So I formatted my HDD so that I could create a partition to install Linux. Now that I'm trying to restore my PS3 backup data, it has hit a hanging point. It's halted at 93% and 17 minutes left. The system isn't frozen, the controller still works and I'm sure I can cancel out, but what's the deal here? Is my backup data corrupted? Did I just wipe out all of my information with no possible way to get it back?

This is freaking me out right now!

Is your partition too small for the data you're trying to put on it?

Why do you want Linux on it?

Well, it looks like it started going again! I got scared for a second, it was stuck on 93% for about 40 minutes. Let's see if it finishes!

Nah, it allocated at least 320GB for the PS3 partition and I have about 150GB to back up.

Programming efficiency, assuming it's any good on here. I also want to use some emulations to try and play any old SNES and Genesis games.

EDIT: Well, now it's hung up on 98%. I swear, if I can't get my data back I'll...

It will be ok Blzer. When I put a 320gb HDD in my system, it took nearly 3+ hours to back up everything I had (it wasn't much) and then put it on to the new HDD. This is a nice feature by Sony, but a total pain in the.................

Oh no no no, I've done this before. In fact, I did it twice over winter break. The thing is though it never hangs like this. Normally it does its normal progression and stays en route with its going rate. But here it has said 98% and 3 minutes for about the past half hour now.

Oh, and this has been going since 8:00 AM.

WOW! That doesn't sound right, but I would just leave it for another hour to see if it finishes.

For sure. Once it's done, I hopefully won't have to touch it again (at least the backup utility).

I'm just scared that I can't get my stuff back, especially considering how close it is to finishing.

I napped for two hours, and woke up and it looks like it's good! It scared me a bit though, because my display and Internet stuff wasn't working but that's because this backup is from over winter break when I was on a 1080p TV and different connection, etc.

I'm still not positive everything is as should be though only because of those hangups, so I'll be investigating more just to be sure.

No luck with the Tretton e-mail but I just let some call from Sony go.
It had a 415 area code and I didn't know what it was. I looked it up. Maybe they're finally doing something or maybe they got the e-mail and decided to do something.

Thought this would be a good thread to ask this. My PS3 suddenly won't work with the usual tv when I turn it on all I get is a blank screen. When I tried on another tv it worked. Anybody know what I can do? I have tried to reset the settings but when i turn it on and let it beep twice nothing comes up still. I use a HDMI the only thing that changed was the directv box now uses the other one since I upgraded receivers, I used to have the directv box on components. Thanks in advance

Are you on the right source or channel on your TV. Like my cable box uses a HDMI cable and its on HDMI2 souce while my playstation is on the HDMI1 source. If that makes any sense.
