    HDMI question

I have a 30-inch Sony Wega and an HD/cable converter box from Comcast. I noticed there are slots for HDMI in the back of both. If I buy an HDMI cable and run it from the TV to the HD converter box will it work with my original 360 (not the black elite or whatever it is called)?

If so, does it make much of a difference in the picture quality of games?
It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

    Re: HDMI question

To answer your first question, yes, you dont have to have an elite to use the HDMI, just check the back of your xbox to see if there is a HDMI slot. It should be right next to the Internet hook up. Secondly, you will notice a good deal of difference in picture quality from using component hookup to HDMI. If you have the slot for the HDMI, I would suggest buying a cord. You can get them from most electronic stores, just make sure you dont pay too much (anything over 10$ is a ripoff) for the cord and dont pony up to buy the monster because there is pretty much no difference between them and cheap HDMI cords.

EDITMissed something in your post) Most newer TV's have more than one HDMI slots in the back of them. You will have to hook your TV to your 360 with a HDMI directly, cant run it from the converter box as far as I know

      Thanks.

So after I hook the HDMI cable from the 360 to the TV, do the component cables from the 360 to the TV need to come off, or do they stay on?

        Re: HDMI question

Once you hook up the HDMI cable. You can unhook the components. I play mines through the VGA input. My TV only has 2 HDMI ports and they are use already. (one for HD satillite and the other is for the PS3)

Technically, you shouldn't notice a big difference in picture quality between HDMI and component cables. HDMI allows for upconversion, which isn't allowed to happen on component cables. For the 360 you can only upconvert with HDMI or VGA cables.

The big difference will be in audio quality because lossless audio can only be done with HDMI.

Well I have a Philips 52 LCD and when I went from using the normal "HD" setting on the original cord that came with the xbox, it looked pretty good. When I switched and started using the HDMI instead, I could notice a huge difference in the same game. Just saying that I notice a big difference
