PS3 Disc Read Problem

Fellaz, my cuz's PS3 WILL read movie DVDs but MOST of the time it won't read gaming discs--as a matter the icons don't even come up when they load. is this just a lens cleaning thing or what? thanks

If it is still spinning the discs than I would say it's just dust. If it's not spinning the discs, than the laser might be dead. Mine just stopped yesterday, won't spin any discs. I'm replacing the laser myself, and found a great tutorial on youtube that goes step by step in showing you how to do so. It probably would help you if you decide to open it up to get out the dust.

His PS3 has the 2.76 update on it FWIW, will play reg dvds, but not BR. it will not play PS3 games as well. but it will spin, when inserting gaming discs. it will play PS2 games if compatible (40 GB) I'm guessing it needs a can of air or a lense cleaner. also the game icon doesn't come up either.
Are there any cleaners y'all recommend here or is this MORE serious? thanks

I have had similar problems, but it seemed to start for me after getting Madden, I will be returning my copy of the game and starting from scratch.

I have a 60gb PS3 (I am not sure what firmware version) and haven't had any issues before getting Madden last week.

It usually happens after pausing the game or leaving it in the franchise menu for 20-30 minutes, when I come back I get the disc read error and I am forced to press the PS button to exit. The PS3 will then not recognize any discs until I do a power down.

Any cleaning methods would be very helpful.
