2nd RROD in a year - Need Advice

Xbox just went out. I originally bought it in May 2007. had it go out in the Summer of 2008. Now it's out again. Last time my Best Buy warranty was still good so I exchanged it, it's probably over by now though.

I was thinking of sending it in to get repaired. First question, I'm not sure I still have the original receipt anymore, can I still send it in to get fixed for free with the 3 year warranty?

If I do find my receipt and send it in to get fixed, what is the turnaround time lately on getting one back?

This would figure. Wait all f'n summer for Madden, and now the thing goes out! I've seen the do it yourself fixes, but honestly I don't know if I'm brave enough to try that since it voids your warranty. I can't afford to buy a new one if I mess up.

By the way, the light on my power supply is orange both when the console is off and when it is on. Is this the problem and not my console? The console freezes and goes checkerboard when I actually get it to turn on, but typically it just goes 3 red lights right away.

Checkerboard thing is usually a sign of the RROD. Even if it turns on for a minute it will eventually die completely. Turnaround for me was about 13 days to get my system back, but I printed my own shipping label and mailed it without waiting for them to send a box, which they don't do anymore. Without a receipt, MS told me they go by the manufacture date on the back of the console. As far as the home repair idea, i won't do it for the fact it voids your warranty on everything. So if your drive dies, or anything else goes bad, they won't fix it even for the price of the repair.

Check Craiglist and xbox forums for someone to repair it for you. You can even youtube it for instructions to do it yourself. It's not expensive or complicated. Also read the thread I started about caring for your 360.

I believe they go by creation date if you don't have a receipt. I think they check when the thing was created and give you 3 years from that date.

That sucks mate.

My original 360 was scratching my discs and after getting into a public forum argument with a forum admin (who warned me they'd take legal action if I continued to defame MS on a public forum), they finally gave in and accepted the blame.

This was back in the day when they paid for shipping and the box but they also replaced my 3 games that were scratched by the Xbox.

2 months after getting my console back, I got the red rings. Sent for repair, sent back a new or refurbished console.

About a month later it red ringed again so I threw it in the bin (later bought a PS3) and never looked back.

Other than gaming websites, there is simply not enough public disgracing of MS for this. To me, it's the biggest disaster in any type of tech/electrical product by a known company and there should be consequences.
