Some guy I was playing on Madden swore on this life, that I got a new Gamertag by cashing in the gamerpoints. I thought he meant Microsoft points, but he swore it was the ones he earned from getting achievements.

Have I been missing something huge, or was he an idiot?

he was an idiot, although I think the gamerpoints would be a better idea since it shouldn't cost anybody $10 to change their gamertag.

Gamerpoints mean nothing more than bragging rights and you can't do anything with them.

I don't know why Microsoft never did it that way for Gamerpoints. Oh wait, I do know.....they're greedy bastards.

No, because people would/and do cheat for gamerscore. It's even happened right on OS.

They did it once where they gave a free game, theme and some other stuff back when the 360 first hit. I ended up getting Fuzion Frenzy 2 and some other stuff. Wasn't much but it was nice. It was quickly ruined though by the cheaters and hackers.

Yeah, that is true about the cheaters that would kill that idea but imo it kinda sucks that gamerpoints are just for bragging rights. To me its not much to brag about, lol.

too bad really, as it was an interesting concept. Oh well, I don't really need incentive to care about achievements, they're pointless, but addictive.
