Fair warning: If you buy a PS3 off of craigslist, make sure it isn't banned from PSN.
Now that i've warned you, on to the point of this thread. After trading e-mails with Sony this week, I get this one:
Wow.
So, does anybody have any idea how you run up 700+ dollars in PSN fees? Because I don't. And how does posing as a Sony employee figure in to running up said debt? Anywho, i'm stuck and it sucks.
I officially hate the kid that sold me my PS3.

Hello Jesse,
We apologize for any inconvenience and any confusion this issue has caused.
There is a reason we banned the console. If you bought this console used, you probably will want to ask from whom your bought it, about this.
A previous user of this console was banned for posing as an SCEA employee on line which is a violation that got his account banned permanently. The console he used, the one you are trying to use, was banned for Debt associated with charge backs. While this is not a permanent ban, the console is not permitted to be used online, unless we recover the debt amount. In this case, that amount is $784.84 in US dollars.
If you want to use this system, you will need to pay that debt for us to allow that console back online.
It would be an observation that a new PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system is available for $299.00, so we do not expect that you will want to pay that amount to use that console.
Your account, based upon your email address is in good standings, not in question and if you use a different console, you could use your account.
I hope this further explanation has helped you understand better what has occurred.
