Re: PS4 in 2012?
eh, people have been assuming the new consoles will be out around 2012, give or take a year. The console turned three years old a few days ago, and in 2012 it would have been out for six years. That's not at all unreasonable given previous generations.
But it's still too early to believe anything posted on any site about contracts or tech specs for the next gen console hardware.Comment

Hell no. This can't even be close to true. If it is, I have lost faith in Sony having faith in their consoles and would probably pass on the PS4.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: PS4 in 2012?
again, if they did come out with a new console in 2012, how is that any different than the similar time span between their other consoles? 6 years has been a long time for any console, not to mention the overlap years where it's still supported once the successor is released.Comment

The PS3 has much more potential than the PS2, that's why. I feel like they need to prove to be in this one for the long haul, or at least a few more years than the 360.again, if they did come out with a new console in 2012, how is that any different than the similar time span between their other consoles? 6 years has been a long time for any console, not to mention the overlap years where it's still supported once the successor is released.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: PS4 in 2012?
That's all fine, and something people always seem to get fired up about, regardless of the console. However, 2012 isn't for another 3 years. That's a long time in the hardware world, and who knows what the console landscape will look like by then. This is something every console has gone through.
It's all speculation either way though. It's too early to consider rumors about tech contracts sony/nintendo/ms will use, and perhaps it's too early to say this console generation will be like all others, and cycle to new hardware after 5-6 years.Comment

Hardware will always get faster, technology will always advance, you can't change that. Conventional thinking also makes you keep up, or you will be old news and dig a hole you might never come out of. Although it might be interesting to see someone take the stand of "we are going hold back and then come way over the top and trump you later", it's a major gamble.Comment

Re: PS4 in 2012?
I guess it is possible that we might see something around 2012/2013 the more I think about it from either Nintendo or Microsoft. In some ways I have been happy and upset with this generation. I would just hate for sports titles next year to finally be really good like Madden as an example and a few others, then in 2 years they have to start thinking of programming for new hardware when it took some of these developers 4-5 years to finally get a franchise right. I'm all for extending this generation as much as possible.eh, people have been assuming the new consoles will be out around 2012, give or take a year. The console turned three years old a few days ago, and in 2012 it would have been out for six years. That's not at all unreasonable given previous generations.

All Nintendo has to do is release an updated Wii like they have with the DS line adding more colors, an HDMI output, and a 720p scaler which would allow the system to live on a bit longer. Personally one more price cut in the coming year would not hurt Nintendo the least.
MS just needs to really get out of the current hardware architecture as its still causing problems for them, not as much anymore. The 360 is powerful enough to go a few more years. Will Natal breathe new life to the 4 year old console, only time will tell.
Sony I think really needs to work on their software side of things with the XMB and get their priorities straight. My god, we are still syncing Trophies to the network. LOL! Placing some pressure on lazy third party developers that at times release a less inferior 360 port to the PS3 even though the hardware is hard to program with. The Cell could last them a few more years as we have seen what could be done. If Sony is smart, for the PS4..............make sure to keep a version of the cell as part of your architecture or else developers will experience the same issue next gen.
What is key for me and I bet many of you that have bought a tons load of digital content on either of the platforms is being able to use some of the content next generation. If this is not possible next gen, I have a feeling that it could hurt DD even more.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 11-25-2009, 02:26 PM.Comment

Re: PS4 in 2012?
I'll be honest, my main jump toward PS3 was Blu-ray. I could continue playing MLB Power Pros and GTA San Andreas if I really wanted to, or I could quit gaming for a while... but I really craved HD material with my HD equipment. Plus, Rock Band was a big plus.Hardware will always get faster, technology will always advance, you can't change that. Re: PS4 in 2012?
I think the whole PS3 "ten year plan" is nothing but marketing spin. If Xbox comes out with something new in 2011 or 12 then Sony has to as well. Or maybe Sony learned from this gen and won't let MS get the jump on them again.Comment

Re: PS4 in 2012?
See, I'm thinking differently on this in that I think they are able to hold off until the middle of Microsoft's next generation. Not everyone that has a PS3 will jump over to another Xbox console, and not everyone will be pleased with it either. This can get them to focus on the issues that arrive with the Xbox and things to avoid. That's just me.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: PS4 in 2012?
2012 doesn't sound so far fetched. Just because they release PS4 doesn't mean they will stop supporting the previous console like some companies will do. Sony won't let MS get a year head start on the next gen like they did this year.Comment
