    ps3 advice

So I'm considering buying a ps3. I already have a 360, but feel that ps3's are cheap enough now, especially used ones, to warrant a purchase. I want a blu-ray player so I might as well spend another $100 and get another system.

I'm considering the 40 or 80 gig models because they're in the mid $200's on ebay or at gamestop. I'm not worried about backwards compatibility. Anything I should make a note of with these older models? I know they use more energy and don't come with the dualshock 3.

I'll probably get 2 or 3 used games. MGS4 is a definite purchase. I'm also considering Uncharted, The Show, Resistance, and Killzone. Basically any ps3 exclusive title is an option. Any preference?

Also does any hdmi cable work on a ps3?

Yes...any HDMI cable will work...don't fall for the banana in the tail pipe trick

And you can't go wrong with any of those games you listed. I have owned and played them all....great games. Uncharted 2 is still hot online( if you like online shooters) Played Killzone2 to death...and the Show, well its the Show.

I would go with the 80 gig, just for the larger memory, if nothing else.

          Re: ps3 advice

The 40/80gb model only has 2 usb ports and no bc compatibility. The MGS and Motorstorm 80gb bundle ps3 has 4 usb ports, memory card readers and bc.

Since you are buying a used ps3, make sure the ps3 is not banned from psn (can't log on to psn or create a new account). I heard horror stories in which people have bought banned ps3's from ebay.

Why not just spend the extra 50 bucks and get a new one man? You know it will work and you're getting a lot more memory.

Why not go to gamestop, buy a used 40 gig and 3 used games for 300? Makes more sense to me.

                  Re: ps3 advice

I got a used 80 gb fatty off ebay for $200, and it's fine to do that if you get it from a reputable seller. It's probably more safe than craigslist even.

I already had a 360, so spending $300 on just a new slim console is probably too much. I'm a fan of renting or buying used games anyways.

So does each ps3 have their own attached ps network account? In other words, if I buy a used system, will I have to settle with the account already on the account or can I overwrite it?

No Bro you can create your own account. They are talking about the System ID being banned. Each system has a specific ID/Serial number...which is associated to that system solely. If it is banned, you will have to deal with the repercussions of whatever the reason it was banned.

Sony will show very little to no sympathy either.

I'd go with the 80GB as you likely will fill up the 40GB. Extra card slots and USB ports are nice to have but definitely not necessary. I don't think I've ever used multiple USB ports at the same time on mine.
