Re: 120gb
What system are you referring to? Or are you referring to a CPU?
It really depends on what you use it for. Honestly, even for a CPU you probably won't use that much space, but it seems the more that you use, the more processors that are running, the slower your CPU ends up going in the end. So you don't always want to have that much on there anyway.
If it's for the PS3, again, it matters what you use it for. I installed a 400GB HDD into my PS3. I own eight disc games (save files and data installs included), five downloaded games, like sixty demos, a bunch of movie/game trailers and featurettes, a crapload of photos, Photoshop jobs and backgrounds, about 5,000 songs, and I'll be installing Linux over winter break (about another 10GB). I just want to make sure that I never run out of stuff to put on it. If you're wondering, I've already used about 160 GB of it.

Re: 120gb
Well let me try and break it down for you a little more. I'm not at my system so I know I'm unaware of my photos and movie stuff:
1000 KB = 1 MB
1024 MB = 1 GB
- Most games will have game installs. They may range from a couple of megabytes (like demos) and may go up to about 5 GB (GTA IV and The Bourne Conspiracy, for example). They are required for the games to run.
- I have five downloaded games (Fat Princess, Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, ZEN Pinball, Rag Doll Kung Fu, TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled), which equates to very little, maybe 3 or 4 GB max. Then I have a bunch of demos, but again... with a 400 GB machine I own the right to download as many as I want.
- Games have save data, but that's not much at all. Most saves are only KB of data. Some saves though, like a lot of movies for The Show and Skate (which I forgot about, my bad) can be maybe 10 MB in size. Then I also forgot to mention that I have about 300 Rock Band songs downloaded, which is taking up insurmountable space as well.
- I have about 5,000 MP3 files (songs), which equates somewhere around or under 40 GB or so.
- I have hundreds of photos, but most of them are still under 1 MB anyway, so again, that's not too bad.
- Then I have downloaded movies through the PlayStation Store, and my dad also archives some recorded footage of ours (normally my sister's softball games) onto my PS3. I don't know how much that takes up. And Blu-ray discs automatically save things onto my drive. I don't really know why, but I keep them on anyway.
- When I install Linux, it requires partitioning 10 GB for Linux OS when I end up reformatting my drive.
- I also have PlayStation Home, Life with PlayStation, and anything else that they take away from you, like even when you first format the drive.
I hope that just clears things up, how I use saves, etc. Again, I don't know if you were referring to the PS3 or what, but that's how the system uses a bunch of stuff.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
