    Yet again...another PS3 vs. Xbox 360 thread...

Yes, I've been doing research on this topic literally, for years LOL.

Anyway I've been trying to decide this for a LONG time now but I just havent seen that one thing to convince me one way or the other. I've broken in down into acouple of different categories to help me decide...Controller, exclusives, online, extra use, and multi-platform games.

Controller, I give this a tie leaning towards the 360. I've always been a PS2 person, but some games I prefer PS3 controller, and some games I prefer Xbox360 controller. Overall, I've gotten acustomed to the Xbox controller for all games.

Exclusives, again...a tie. There are some exclusives on both consoles that I like, there are about the same on each console, she I cant use this to decide. For the Xbox, the only guaranteed exclusives I'd get are the Grand Thef Auto exclusives, Left 4 Dead 2, and Fable. For PS3, Gran Turismo 5, Infamous...

Online, I give this a tie. Xbox Live is apparently better than PS3's online network, but I dont plan on playing online that much anyway.

Extra use, I give the edge to PS3 only because of all it can do. Will I use all its extra stuff? Probably not, but its nice to know that its there.

And Multi-platform, this is refering to games that come on both systems, which plays better? I've been hearing alot that games that play on both, play better on the Xbox. This is huge to me since most, but not all of the games I play come on both systems. I really need help with this category. Games that come on both may play better on Xbox now, but will they always? PS3 is more powerful, so I assume in the future games may play better on that console. PS3 is suffering from what Xbox suffered from when paired up against PS2 and that is although it more powerful than the 360, games are made first for 360, then ported over to PS3, never utilizing all its power.

The main type of games I'm interested in(for both consoles) are...

    Madden
    NCAA Football
    Grand Theft Auto Series
    Gran Turismo Series
    First Peron Shooters
    Racing games
    Fighting games
    Some RPGs

I see alot of people are recommending the PS3. What do you guys use your PS3 for? The PS3 can infact do alot of things besides play games, but I'm not so sure how much I'd be using these things. The only thing that intrigues me is how the PS3 uses blueray discs for their games, so in the future this *could* allow for large game files meaning for bigger, longer games that the Xbox360 wouldnt be able to hold because of the limited space of the DVD.

Also is there any point to even get one of these systems if one does not have a HDTV?

Here are the possible combinations I've broken it down to:

X360/PS3 regular cables connected to regular TV
X360/PS3 regular cables connected to HDTV
X360/PS3 HDMI cables connected to HDTV.

How different are each graphically? Thanks for the help. I really need to decide on this soon, as I plan on buying one within the next couple days before I spend the money elsewhere

These threads never seem to work...

Anyway, I'm a PS3 guy, because I prefer the exclusives, controller, and free online.

They are about the same graphically, IMO.

Me too for the same reasons. I like all the extra stuff too but I'm pretty sure what I use my PS3 for you can do the same on 360 with the exception of playing Blu-ray discs. Music/movies/photos etc..

i understand...but is there any point to play either of them without an HDTV? And does playing on an HDTV with regular cables look the same as playing on a non-HTV with regular cables?

I have both and prefer the 360 for cross platform games. Xbox Live is better, and overall I just like my experience on that more.

PS3 does have Blu-Ray though, and I primarily use it for that, along with the exclusives (Uncharted, Demon's Souls right now).

I tried going PS3 exclusive a couple years ago and just didn't hook me, I dunno...just found I preferred the 360 when I had a choice.

Also, with 360, you can play via their VGA cable on a monitor, if you have one of those....that would probably get you the better graphics. I'm sure either are still fun on a standard def tv, but graphics do look worse....I only played on a regular tv with 360 for a month or so before grabbing the VGA cable because it looked way better on my monitor, and I don't remember the standard graphics enough to tell you more.

sure, all of the new games are being made for the ps3/360. Not having a HDTV isn't the end of the world, the games are still going to be enjoyable. I played on my computer monitor due to budget and space, it was pretty cheap and easy to do. It even looked better than with a HDTV using component cables.

As for which console to get, It seems from your post that you'd be better off with a 360. The 360 has the better lineup of exclusives and 3rd party multiplatform support. The ps3 is the "better" console, but this generation is already set. Developers won't start to shift focus in any major way. Like you said, it's similar to the xbox and ps2 last generation.

I don't even own a PS3 let alone have played one for more than 5 to 10 minutes at a Best Buy but coming from a multi-owned 360 user I'd say:
              Go with a PS3!!
I can tell you all the bullchip I've gone through with my multiple broken 360's ( http://www.operationsports.com/elgre...er-broken-360/ ) that it just isn't worth it in the end. You owe it to yourself as a consumer to not purchase a product with shoddy workmanship, crappy customer service & fees + charges for things that should be free (Wifi connection? online gaming?). I'm not saying the it's the answer to all this, but these issues are far less prevalent with the PS3.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my 360 but at this stage in the life of these consoles I'd simply go with a PS3. It has (roughly) the same games minus some minor exclusives -- but if you've gone this far without a console honestly the exclusives probably don't matter to you much -- the same graphical output, about the same specs, etc etc but the only main differences are the aesthetics (how it looks), the controllers & the inclusion of a Blu-Ray & wifi connection and it is far less likely to crap out and cost you time & money to have it fixed.

Think of it this way: (with comparable specs... 120GB HDD)
              PS3 = $299
              360 (Elite) = $299 + Network Adapter ($90) + XBL/yr ($50)

              EDIT
Also, when you end up moving up to an HDTV don't worry about 1st party HDMI cables, check these out: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._ya_oh_product I bought 4 of them and they all work perfectly... this is coming from a guy who isn't the biggest techie.

If you like COD, MW2 is waaaay better on Ps3 than 360.

I made my switch over a year ago from Xbox 360 to PS3 and can't be happier. It's sad when you are worrying if your system is going to crap out while playing a game.

I personally think the whole Xbox Live vs PSN is closer than what most people believe. Xbox live does have move features but really the whole experience on either side depends on where your gaming friends are. PSN isn't that far behind Xbox Live anymore..

RavensFan2k3 if you dont have a next gen system yet then you might aswell wait for the next generation.

I have both, my take on it is,
                    PS3 has better exclusives
360 multiplat games are much better quality then the same game on ps3
                    Live is better then PSN
PS3 is more then a gaming machine, its also a media hub (so more bang for your buck)

you could take into consideration Natal vs Wand.

If you like Gran Turismo, you would probably love the Forza games for 360.

I also have both and my PS3 is a glorified dust collecting machine.

Its funny really, Xbox's Achievment Points are such a good idea, When I am playing a PS3 game I feel like I am wasting achievments for the Xbox. I love the Xbox Controller though, I personally feel the Xbox controller is the greatest invention since sliced bread.

I stuck mainly on the 360 for multigames after flip flopping because of jaggies. Sports games this generation are better looking on the 360. Less jaggies, and sometimes even better textures.

                            If that isn't a concern, go PS3.

I feel for the guys having multiple 360's die, but since I got my Arcade to replace my original 360 I haven't worried one bit about it dying...

I do understand if you've had 5 die you're gonna be pissed though! I do think the new hardware now is better than the stuff in the past.
