    Connecting a PS2 to a HDTV?

    Hi,

Did a search to no avail...

Trying to connect a PS2 to a Vizio HDTV...

I used the standard yellow, white and red RCA out of the TV to the console that came with the system, switched to AV1 and got nothing...

Tried the lower set of jacks, AV2, etc...nothing...

Do I NEED to six plug cable to get this working (with the extra green, blue and red jacks) or should this standard cable work too?

    Thanks!

You should be fine with the regular red yellow and white cables. I have my ps2 hooked up to my Vizio HDTV currently, and it works fine. Not sure what's wrong, but I think you should be fine with the regular cables.

Just a few things you might want to make sure of. Make sure that the cord is plugged into the ps2 completely, I did this once and felt really dumb after trying many things but I didn't bother to check if it was completely plugged into the ps2. Also make sure you have it on the right AV channel. If your tv is like mine, AV2 is the one on the side of the tv, and AV1 is the one on the back of the tv. Don't really have any other advice, but I made both of these mistakes when I first got my tv so I figure they might help.

      Thanks for the quick reply!

I am a dork...I had the thing jacked into the DTV box and NOT the actual TV...

      Ugh...

I have a picture, but I hear that if I choose progessive scan it'll look better...

I can't seem to find that option...

      Thoughts?

      Thanks again!

I put in a DVD to access the menu that chages the picture to 16:9, progessive scan and made the option to tighten up the outlines to +2...

I then put a game back in and it seems like it improved the picture...

Is this the extent of what can be done with the equipment I curently have to make the games look as a good as possible?

        Thanks!

Get either component cables or s-video cables to improve quality. The PS3 component cables should work with the PS2.

turn it on without a disc in it, and then go to the settings there you can change it.

Component cables (red, green, blue + red/white audio) will be a huge upgrade to composite.

S-video will be a minor upgrade.

                Good to know!

It doesn't look that great with the standard cable.

Same thing with my Wii. After a failed attempt to plug it into the TV, I just moved it to the DVD player.

OP, go with the Component Cables. The diffence is quite noticable.

Progressive Scan only works with component as well.

Makes a huge difference in the games that support it,like

Shadow of the Colossus,GT4,Tekken5,and the God of war games.
