    PS3 and DVI input

I'm considering purchasing a PS3. The monitor I will be using has DVI and VGA inputs. Does PS3 come with ability to hook up to DVI? If not, is that easily accomplished? I'd like to use the DVI input if possible.

Edit-If I understand correctly, DVI doesn't carry audio. 2nd question...if I hook up PS3 via DVI port, do the cables come with separate audio connectors?

    Thanks

sure, you need an hdmi to dvi cable, which is cheap enough. For audio, you'll have to go into the ps3 settings to output audio through the composite cables and video through HDMI.

The key thing is whether or not your monitor has HDCP support. Most monitors have it now, but it's still good to check first.

Like already mentioned...best video quality will be DVI to HDMI cable.

What are you using for sound? If tv speakers, regular RCA cables are fine. If surround sound, you want to use a optical cable. Big improvement in sound.

I really don't know what the heck I'm doing. I bought the PS3...right now I only have a monitor with VGA and DVI inputs (and I guess what is called RCA for sound ...cable with red and white connectors).

The whole point right now is to be able to play games on the monitor while watching my standard def (lol) TV. Around Thanksgiving, I plan/hope to get some sort of high def TV but I still would like to be able to watch the TV while playing games. May have to look at a monitor with different inputs.

you can use your monitor, if it's HDCP compliant. Everything else is cheap and easy. The composite cables come with the ps3, so you'll only have to get a very cheap HDMI to DVI cable, and stuff to make the audio work.

If you will be using PC speakers, you'll need:

Stereo RCA to 3.5mm Y Adapter

          3.5mm Coupler

It is HDCP compliant. Will a cable like this work?

sure, although you may not really need to buy cables made for in wall installation.
