    Reasons For Refurbished PS3s?

    Hey guys, my bro just got a refurb PS3 from Frys and was wondering what are the possible reasons people have had problems with PS3s and had them refurbished. Haven't kept up with console news in a long while so have no idea. What are people getting them refurbed for?

      Mine wouldn't eject/accept discs anymore. Had something to do with a misalignment with the plastic gears on the inside.

      Other people normally have laser issues.

                  Cool, thanks. He bought one mainly for the Blu-Ray since his laptop was not reading Blu-Rays anymore. Seems a bit disconcerting, but there's a warranty and all that so I guess its no big deal.

                      Well it just depends on what components were replaced. Refurbs should also be significantly cheaper than brand new. My refurb ps3 was like $100 cheaper than brand new, and the refurb 360 that I got off ebay was $140.

                          I bought a refurbished PS3 a year and a half ago and I've not had a single issue with it. I'm buying a slim ps3 next week, but I wouldn't be worried about a refurbished PS3.

                              My first one was replaced because it wouldn't stay on for more than an hour or so before completely shutting off - not even dropping to standby. It was not YLOD, though probably something similar. I feel like I'm mostly to blame for it myself because I left that thing on all the time.

                              No problems with the refurb at all, over a year old at this point.

                                  LOL I would of thrown that thing out the window if it kept shutting down randomly even if it was my fault.

                                      I think my bro got the refurbed one for 230 or something like that.

                                      Hopefully this thing is more stable than our 360, which has died twice and now has a hard time opening up the disc door.
