    GDC 10

GDC 10: Microsoft Unveils XNA for Windows Phone 7
The game development platform lands on Microsoft's new mobile OS.

March 9, 2010 - The potential for broad gaming support on Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 OS is looking greater each day. First Xbox LIVE connectivity was announced, now this week at Game Developers Conference 2010, Microsoft has introduced XNA Game Studio 4.0.

For those unfamiliar, XNA is a development toolset for PC and Xbox 360 generally used by students and indie developers to make games more efficiently. According to a Microsoft representative, making XNA available to Windows Phone 7 developers "means that they'll be able to find a variety of games on Windows Phone 7 Series when it launches, from casual 2-D games to 3-D games with high quality graphics and for the first time, games with Xbox LIVE features."

So not only will you be able to browse Xbox LIVE profiles and updates from a Windows phone, but the games you play will link up as well, letting you unlock achievements on the go. It's a cool idea on paper, but as with any gaming platform, it's up to the developers to make games worth playing.

For more on Windows Phone 7 Series, stay tuned to IGN Gear.

Thanks Flawless, watching the stream right now.

I wonder what EPIC has up their sleeve since Cliffy was talking about an announcement a few weeks back.

It sounds like a few bundles are coming with the Arc, Eye, and PS3 system.

You can get an eye, controller, and a game for under $100 they are saying if you need both the eye and controller.

WOW! I feel bad for the Wii and Nintendo, both Natal and this Arc are going to do some damage considering that you can get motion control games in HD. Playstation Move is what they are calling it.

I don't think more advanced motion controller tech with HD games is going to stop Nintendo from continuing to outsell both.

I wonder if they put some kind of dent in Nintendo's numbers........yet again, the price of the PS3 and 360 with their motion devices will be more money than a Wii.

Flawless, I agree, that fighting game looked very nice. BTW, did you pick up Yakuza today?

Socom 4 can use the Playstation Move as an option.

Socom 4 actually looks really good and much nicer than Confrontation.

Sweet, can't wait to hear your impressions in the Yakuza thread. I plan to pick it up in a few weeks, I ended up getting FF13 today.

I'm intrigued by the tech and potential of both PS Move and Natal, but what's been shown so far won't have me rushing out to get either. Hopefully, more compelling stuff is shown off at E3.

The precision looked pretty nice. Hustle Kings will be nice with the PM.
