Left analog stick - where should it be

your non fan boy influenced responses please.

I'm a PS3 guy and sometimes i wish the left analog stick was where the digital pad is. I actually have to manipulate my hand to get a comfortable grip on the analog stick. Back when the PSone added analog control the D-pad was still king which is why its position didn't change. Sony more or less just stuck some analog sticks where they fit. but now every game is 3D and the analog sticks are used more than ever. Using sony's logic from the original playstation controller, shouldn't the left analog stick rightfully be moved up?

I don't have an Xbox, but for you guys that have both systems let me know what you think?

I prefer the placement on the Xbox controller. It just feels a lot better where it is because you don't have to reach across the controller as much.

It is no contest. I have both PS3 and 360. I use both very often. I HIGHLY rather the 360 controller. Much better weight, feels more durable, better stick placement, and way better triggers.

360 controller hands down best controller for any game system ever made.

Now I will say the "shine" for UFC is easier on the PS3 controller. Something about the rotation on it is better.

Re: Left analog stick - where should it be

I prefer it where xbox has it. it's right where my thumb naturally go to when griping the controller. I actually like the Original Xbox controller on the Original Xbox(the big one), it was just more comfortable to me. the only thing I did not like was the placement of the white/black buttons.

the 360 controller is better overall to me though, the LB/RB placement instead of the white/black placement really made a difference. I would have like the controller to be slightly bigger, but it it's still great.

I've always preferred Playstation controllers, but that's not to say I don't like the 360 controller. I think both are equal in comfort and the position of the left analog stick has zero-little influence on which one I prefer.

I don't really care either way, and I'm even left handed.

While I prefer the size and configuration of the 360 controller this gen, I've used the dualshock for so many years that it's like muscle memory now.

Re: Left analog stick - where should it be

I don't know what the hell it is - maybe my handedness? - but when I grab the PS3 controller in an instinctive, natural way, my left thumb floats to about the 2 o'clock point above the d-pad, and I have to consciously move it down to get it onto the left stick.

              I prefer the 360's controller by a mile. Shame I don't prefer the 360.

Top left. Like where it is on the most underrated controller ever, the Dreamcast controller. That thing looked a lot less comfortable than it actually was:

I perfer the PS3 way. I hate the XBOX controller but Ive had all 3 Playstations so that might have something to do with it.

The thing I don't like about the dualshock analog placement, is when I push both sticks inward, my thumbs hit each other, which can get pretty damn annoying. Both controllers overall are a wash to me though, as each have their positives and negatives.

I prefer Playstation style, but I've been using it for 15 years so that likely has a lot to do with it. In fact, at this point, I find using the d pad on a Playstation controller awkward.

Re: Left analog stick - where should it be

Based on what you guys are saying I think I might prefer the xbox controller. My thumbs naturally hover above the D pad.

With the PS3 my pinkies are pretty much just floating in the air. I dont have enough space to use them for grabbing.

My roommate of a couple years had an Xbox and I always felt like I had to squeeze my hands into the nooks in the back of the controller.

I haven't touched a 360 controller yet so I'm wondering if they have changed the design in any way.

I doubt I would switch consoles simply because of the controllers. There are many other factors at play

I like the 360 style. The PS3 isn't bad, but I think moving the left analog is definitely the future, more ergonomic and natural. The only reason the PS1/2/3 left analog is in that spot because originally the dpad was still the primary control when introduced. Now that the dpad is more rarely used, it's not worth the placement.

I think Sony will change next console.
