It's amazing how people are loyal to the 360 after all the reliability issues. Like the bf/gf that is always cheating but the other person won't leave them. All the while, hoping that the person will eventually change.

I would never buy a refurbed one or a used one.

My problem is that when i bought it was made to appear like MS boxed it back up and made the repair. I knew it would fail and when it did I figured it would be repaired for free. The note included with the console stated that although it was a refurb it still had a 1 year warranty not the three year offered for the e74 error come to find out it didn't and I'd have to pay $119 to fix it.

Obviously if I knew the warranty and worked wouldn't be backed up I wouldn't have bought it.

Spoke with MS and they will repair it for the $119. So I am going to try the repair kit myself and see if that works if not I will see if I can switch my pre-ordered games to PS3 and drop the 360.

Actually, my same friend that suggested ebay, bought one of the 360's he had at best buy.
no contradiction man, it just means that with their history EVEN BRAND NEW, u'd be double outta ur mind to buy used at any cost esp since theyre cheaper now new. not only would u be risking the regular probs but u could also get somebodys that has been banned from live, tampered with, or just poorly treated. thats my point...u buy new and could possibly get screwed, but ur adding even more risk used which makes it not really worth it at all IMO.

at least with my new purchases i was able to buy a in-store replacement plan for $50 for convenience and not have to deal with MS repair/sending me a refurb. plus i get one at the very start of the warranty period and not one that may be outta the period in 3 mos and most likely break. sad thing is most ppl i know who've been on live for a few years are on their 2nd/3rd/4th consoles just like me.

So what if you can buy them for $60, that just means you probably just wasted $60. That's still $60 wasted though.

              8 deaths (not all were 3 RROD) = 3 consoles (1 used, 1 new, 1 refurb)

In the end, it really doesn't matter because they're all going to crap out so it's a matter of when, not if. My opinion would be to purchase it new UNLESS you know of a local shop that can fix them on the cheap, then I'd go with a refurb/used if you can get it at a deep discount.

Like much of the hardware problems this gen, mileage will vary. I've had a refurb last almost a year before dying, which is longer than any of the brand new ones I've owned. My very first 360 only lasted like 2 months.

While it's obviously preferable to go for brand new hardware, unlike FootballForever, I have a seller on ebay that sells cheap refurbs I've actually had good experience with.

Wow..i get ya now, Mass. Yeah you and Odogg have very valid points about not getting used/refurbs. I almost think I should just save up even more and get a ps3, lol, but i would rather go 360 because i wanna try to play online once i get it and they say 360 is better to play online with. The only game that even makes me want a ps3 is "Heavy Rain", which is the most movie-like game i have ever seen.

If 360's are so bad, then why do most people who have owned one that craps out on them go back and buy a 2nd/3rd/4th console? I dont know of a lot of folks that have had to buy more than one ps3, so what makes the 360 better? help me to understand.

Most people enjoy (and gladly pay for) XBL vs. the PS3 free online. Also most of their friends have 360s which makes a big deal.

IMO, blu ray, free online, and reliability makes the PS3 worth the price difference. 2 RROD's and I am done with MS this gen.

You should buy consoles new. Games are a different issue.
I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....

PW, this is from a non-fanboy perspective

....i started with the 360 and really enjoy the crap out of it and the online it provides. coming from ps1&2 and then jumping ship to 360 was like culture shock/treason to me. but i was so glad i did. i LOVE my 360. but after bout 2 yrs i got me a ps3 too cuz i was curious as to what i was missing and some of the games looked great. the online infastructure on 360 is just better flat out...but then again it should be cuz ur paying $50/13mos. easier to chat with multiple ppl with parties, cross chatting while everyone can be playing diff games cant be beat. makes it easy to wrangle up ur friends no matter what theyre doing and talk or get them to join games. better messenging and game invites. more ppl online on 360. so far, most multiplatform games are a tad better on 360 for some reason as well as most games are made on 360, then ported to ps3.

ps3 despite being free is not that bad either. it was downright wack when it first started, but as the years have gone by u can tell that ps3 is on the move and trying to get its online offerings more in line with 360. ive had my ps3 for a lil over a year and theres constant firmware updates where they keep adding more functionality. that is a good thing. 360 is just too far ahead tho in the online aspect due to the huge headstart. but the ps3 can hold its own. as far as gaming, the ps3's exclusives are AMAZING!!! most of them show u what the ps3 is truly capable of...heavy rain, uncharted 2, mlb the show, god of war 3. honestly all i use my ps3 for is to experience these exclusives and not feel like i missed out cuz i got only one system. and oh yea, the ps3 has a built in web browser although not the best i dont have probs seeing most sites i wanna see. u can copy and save images off the web to create free wallpapers/backgrounds, etc. USB memory stick support and easy ability to backup and move files on/off the console. 360 has JUST added this feature, although not as friendly and more restricted than ps3. ps3 also has built in wifi...360 makes u buy a MS adapter for too much $. and dont get me started on why MS cant put a lite version of internet explorer on the stinking console?!?! i aint gonna lie, nothing like being on ps3, checking ur email, looking at OSports, watching some youtube, then closing the browser and jumping into some uncharted 2!!

in conclusion, they both have pros and cons. IMO the 360 is better right now, despite its "older" reliability issues and some of the gimping/restrictions that MS places on it for no reason other than to make u buy a MS branded solution. even if i didnt have a replacement plan when mine crapped out, i wouldve went back and paid full price for another with no hesitation. thats how good it is to me. as far as ps3, its on the way up and in the end may become the superior system over time as they add more functionality. with both systems being around the same price now....its really ur preference to controller and exclusive games u wanna play as both systems have exclusive games.

hope that clears it up a lil PW

Fixed the RROD error last night and was happy to get back online and whoop on madden. Only problem was the washers kept sliding before I could hand tighten them. But works as new, until it RR again
