    Gamescom Conference Discussion

It starts tomorrow and there are supposed to be some huge announcements.

Cologne is six hours ahead of my time zone (East Coast) and eight hours ahead of Kotaku's posting time (Mountain time). Today, Monday, there is no Gamescom.

On Tuesday, there will be some major pre-Gamescom events:

    -12:30pm Gamescom Time (6:30am ET/ 3:30 am PT): Microsoft's showcase begins.
-4pm Gamescom Time (10am ET / 7am PT): EA press conference (streamed at EA)
-6pm Gamescom Time (noon ET / 9am PT): Sony press conference

You can expect liveblogs of those events, our Internet connections willing.

    —-

On Wednesday, Gamescom opens to the press. Wednesday will kick off three days of show coverage. Our guys in Germany will meet with everyone from Valve to Blizzard to Ubisoft, with a dash of Infamous 2 and Final Fantasy XIV thrown in. You can expect stories, photos and — if bandwidth can be found — video from the show all of those days.

    ---------------------------------------

Let the Mass Effect rumors on PS3 start again: A couple of Spanish websites are reporting that EA's big announcement at Gamescom will be a Mass Effect bundle for the PS3.

Played both on 360, but I would double dip if Mass Effect came to PS3.

I wouldn't expect much in way of announcements from Microsoft or Nintendo, because neither have used Gamescom as a stage to make big announcements in the past like Sony has. Both will have a big presence on the show floor though.

        PS3 Slim 120gb goes to 160gb

The cheapest version of Sony's thinner PlayStation 3 is now 40GB fatter in North America, a "just announced" improvement now shipping from retailer GameStop. The better news is that it's still $299 USD.

GameStop is carrying the upgraded version of the console now, seemingly a replacement for the base 120GB model that has been on offer in North America. Sony has a press conference scheduled for Tuesday at Gamescom. So don't be surprised if a few more things are "just announced" soon.

Sony PlayStation 3 160GB [GameStop - thanks, Josh!]

          I thought they would match the 250GB 360 with a 250GB PS3 at $299.

I guess the 120GB models might get a price cut to clear them out.

Fry's supposedly has discounted them to $249.

Was wondering why Amazon hasn't restocked their 120 GB supply in the past week or so. They're usually on top of keeping stock, or restocking quick, but they've been selling out of Target lately.

Was waiting to use my Prime membership on one, guess I'll have to wait and see what's going on.

It was only a 3rd party exclusive anyways, which made little sense for a company like EA. Besides, without the first game, the true Mass Effect experience remains on the 360.

More gamers playing great games is good though.

                          It's Amazon for you......LOL!

I bet that Gamestop new about this 160gb coming and that is why they were giving $200 on the PS3 trade-in. It was their way of unloading the 120gb.

I think by next gen we will see much less in terms of exclusives from third parties unless it comes from a first party. I like it better this way so everyone could get the best of the 3rd party titles.

Sure, both Sony and MS will be on even ground with 3rd party support next gen. However, Sony also grew some new IP's and strengthened their first party lineup with the ps3, while MS became more dependent on 3rd parties.
