New Xbox 360 Controller (Transforming D-pad)

Xbox Live's Major Nelson has a post up about the new controller, which now features a transforming D-pad.

We’ve just made the Xbox 360 Wireless controller even better with a brand new version that includes a transforming D-pad. The engineers have come up with an ingenious solution with a d-pad that can go from a plus to a disc with the twist of the wrist.

In addition to the new d-pad, the matte silver controller also features concave analog sticks and gray A,B,X,Y buttons for added style.

The controller will only be available with the new Play & Charge Kit that will launch on November 9th for US $64.99.

Why remove the color from the buttons?

And why remove the black color? They just released two 360s that are all black with all black controllers, and now their new controller is silver with no color on the buttons?

        I don't get it...

Honestly, what harm did the colors have? The controller looked great! You just had to make a decent d-pad. You didn't need to do anything else to the controller.

*angry face* Honestly... which one looks better?

I have no reason to be pissed about this but I am. Put the colors back, and I might buy one of your new controllers.

I do like those. That is one thing MS seems to understand that Sony doesn't... CONCAVE is better than CONVEX.

Also, seeing as how MS is willing to tweak their controller for the better, I wish Sony would do the same, ie fix the triggers, maybe adjust the analog stick placement, etc. If these companies can update and charge for new consoles, certainly they can update the controllers as well.

Me likkey. I don't remember the last time I used a d-pad, but that would be nice if I ever did heh. I like the new design better... real sleek and modern-looking, less kid-like without the bright colors IMO.

EDIT: I hate Sony controllers... that's still one of the reasons I've never really considered buying a PS3. If I actually have a game I want to play, I have to use that damn tiny controller that I hate.

I for one am happy the colors are gone. Not that I hated them or disliked them before but I like the new look.

Not a fan of it, I am like Giggas. I like the old look better and prefer the button colors.

The dpad has been a problem for years, and a fix is appreciated, but I paid like $70 to import the dualshock 3 from Japan. $65 is kind of steep for what this is, but that's MS for you.

As they held it out of the new slim console, and they went with different button colors, I assume this will be only be positioned as the premium controller for core games that wanted a working dpad.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.
