Playing XBL with a Verizon or ATT Internet Card?

Anyone know if it's possible? I'm moving in two weeks and where we're moving to, we won't have access to cable or DSL. So we're going to buy the Internet/Air Cards from either Verizon or ATT. If you don't know what those are, they're basically little 'cards' you plug into your computer and you get WiFi.

The only way I could do it is to hook up my Xbox to my computer via Ethernet and essentially share my PC's internet connection. I'm only wondering if the connection will even be strong enough to support XBL. I'm assuming it will be extremely laggy and not worth my time, but I just thought I'd ask.

Speeds would be dependent on the strength of where you are, it could be enough, it could not, can't be sure until you have the device in hand on location.

Your problem is going to likely be latency, I'm not 100% sure but I believe latency is horrid. I know it's bad if you wireless tether to a droid, but I don't know if that translates to the dedicated cards.

I sell them at Best Buy. It's not usually recomended, mainly because you have a 5GB usage cap on every carrier. The only way to get unlimited is if you have 4G coverage through Sprint, or use the Virgin Mobile card that runs off of Sprint's network and is $40 a month for unlimited. The downside to Virgin Mobile is the coverage. Virgin cards don't have access to all of Sprint's towers which will majorly cut down on speed.

Second, you need one of two things if you choose to go that route. You need either a Mifi card (offered through the Virgin option and through Verizon) or Sprint's Overdrive. These are like little routers that allow up to five users on them at once. If you go the normal card route you need a separate router that allows air cards to be used with WiFi. They're pretty spendy, at least $150.

All in all, I don't recommend it mainly because of the usage caps. They will bite you bad if you go over. If Virgin or Sprint 4G is availible then maybe that would work, but I imagine since you don't have access to cable or DSL, you probably won't be great with either of their coverage.

I do it when I'm back at home, because we live in the boonies. We have Verizon UM71 something or other. It works OK for certain games. Depending on how good your connection is you can play most games. I had very little trouble playing Modern Warfare with 2 or 3 bars out of 4. If you want to play Sports games online, you'll want to at least have 3/4 bars, because they require more upload and download space and speed. But yes, it does work. Connect on your computer, use an Ethernet CROSSOVER Cable (regular ethernet cable will not work), and bridge the connections. I don't know if it matters or not, but I found if I turn off my firewall while doing this it connects better.

Usage isn't that bad, a game of NCAA football is about 40-50 Mbs per game, while MW 2 was like 5 Mbs per game from what I remember.

And I think you're going to have to go into your online settings in XBL and put in a custom IP address and such... I may be wrong, it may have only been PS3 I did that for I don't really remember, but initially it may not connect and the problem is that the xbox couldn't pick up the info, so you have to enter it all in yourself.

WOW the lengths people go through to play online.
