Return game, get it for different system?

I have NHL 11 for the 360, but was thinking of selling my Xbox since I hardly ever play it. Could I return the game to GameStop since it is within 30 days of purchase (say something is wrong with it) and get a copy of the PS3 version?

You could try. Say that your 360 is dead. Ask if it's possible to return the game and swap it out. The chances of them saying yes are slim, but if you hit the manager on the right day you might get a yes. More than likely you'll get to trade it in for 15 bucks.

They won't do it, trust me, no stores will. I learned that all too well last year with Madden when I got it for the PS3 and decided I wanted the Xbox version of it. Even Walmart wouldn't do it. Your best bet is to sell for $40 on craigslist and take the monetary hit on buying the Ps3 version for $60.

I just gotta ask, why do guys make a thread for this and then wait for answers from people who may not really know? In the time it took to type this thing up and create a new topic, you could have just called GameStop directly and found out for sure.

I trust the answers from guys on this forum more than I do employees @ GameStop. I've asked questions there before and have received incorrect information, so I'd rather not be misled.

And that doesn't really make sense. If we all tell you that it's possible and you call and ask a Gamestop employee and they say it's not possible, now when you go to Gamestop you believe that what we said will hold true? The employee there will still say it's not possible.

Normally incorrect information stems from release dates and prices, not whether they have inventory or their rules of game trade-ins/exchanges.

Exactly. If that employee tells you they can't do it... what is our opinion going to matter? Are you really going to go in and say "But... the guys on OS said you could do it!".

You asked a question and I answered it. Sorry that the answer wasn't what you were looking for. Obviously, you can get incorrect information from any source. I simply posed the question to see if anyone here @ OS had attempted to do this and what the result was before I decided if I was going to go that route.

No they didn't. I decided to just keep it for the 360 and then picked up NBA 2K11 for the 360 as well. I figure if this thing decides to crap out, I'll just pick up one of the new 4gb 360's and slap my old 20gb HDD on it.

It's ironic this got bumped today, i just returned Castlevania for the PS3 and got it for the 360 at Best Buy. it wasn't opened though. I exchanged it because I want to be able to listen to the goth masters Sisters of Mercy when I play this game and that's something the PS3 just don't do (which is a huge reason I like the 360 better)..

It doesn't work like that anymore. The old style hard drives won't work on the new 360. They use a completely different style of hard drive.
