Re: PSVITA Handheld Information
PS Vita 3G costs about $159 to make ...
What a difference six months makes. In June last year Sony boss Kaz Hirai proudly took to the stage at E3 to announce that the Vita would retail for $250 (or $299 for the 3G version) - a figure that was generally greeted with enthusiasm by both press and gamers alike. Meanwhile, the considerably less powerful 3DS was floundering at around the same price, just a few months after its launch.
Fast forward to January 2012 and the 3DS is flying off shelves following an unprecedented pricing rethink while the Vita has got off to a miserable start in Japan, with numerous internet commentators already starting their 'cut the price' catcalls.
So, one month ahead of the machine's global launch, we've enlisted the help of technical intelligence experts UBM TechInsights and taken a screwdriver to Sony's new portable in an attempt to divine two things - whether you're getting good value for money, and whether Sony has left itself any room for an emergency price drop should the Western launch belly-flop.
UBM's VP of business intelligence, Jeffrey Brown, tells us that the total bill of materials for the 3G-enabled version of the system comes in at an estimated $159.10 - that's around £102.90. That figure breaks down as follows:
Display and touchscreens: $50
Battery: $3.60
Cameras: $3.50
Wi-Fi/BT/GPS: $3.50
NAND: $6.00
SDRAM: $9.25
Processor: $16.00
BB+XCR: $16.25
Non-electronic: $11.00
Other: $30.00
Supporting materials: $10.00
For more on UBM's findings, head on over to its official site.Comment

Not a surprise, I expect them to try to do the same with the PS4 to try and avoid the hole they dug selling the PS3 at a loss for years.
That kind of buffer should help with still poor exchange rates too.

Re: PSVITA Handheld Information
Listen, I'm going to be honest, I know I take a lot of heat around here for my device switching and what not. I take it and its in all good fun.
For once I know its hard just take this serious.....LOL
Here me out, the vita is a great machine thus far, I have owned it for about 3 weeks now and I have no regrets. I'm really stunned by the power this little buddy has. Graphics amazing, if you tell me that I'm going to keep getting games to look like uncharted all the time or maybe even better I will be happy and the Vita will have much staying power. I have been very happy with the battery, from the time I have had it I have not even had to charge it yet, granted I'm not playing it for hours straight I still have like 25% left on one single charge.
I know the sales are struggling in Japan, it may seen scary at this point, but I think when released in the US and people get it in there hands, this thing is going to sell, I would bet it would sell much better here in the US.
I think sports games could be a and will be a huge hit on the Vita, granted teams Like 2k Make NBA2k and EA makes there sports Line available on the Vita, which I think will happen no doubt.
Anyway, only under a month to go for some of you guys and under a month for me to get online access. Can't wait.N.Y Mets

So FF has had the Vita for 3 weeks and hasn't had to charge it yet? Isn't the battery life 7 hours?

Re: PSVITA Handheld Information
WOAH, you must have gotten the super duper battery not having to charge it yet since you bought it. How long have you been playing this thing, 20 minutes here and there?Comment

I played for about 2 hours straight yesterday.
Don't forget, I don't use wifi for anything at this time, so saving battery on that.
