    Re: Kinect Reviews

Sounds great but I too do most my gaming in a loft area in our house. I probably have about 4-5 feet from the couch to the tv. I prefer gaming in the loft rather than moving to our larger living room and tying up the tv. I'd like to get it but will give it a few more months to check out reviews.

I'll be picking this up later in the month. Looking forward to your review of the Dance game EG. That's what my wife is excited about. I'll play the sports titles, not sure what else. Looking forward to some impressions. As for my 'setup' if you will, I'll be sitting around 8' from the TV, 47" 3D LED LG that the wife gave the go ahead for... So I assume that I'll be fine within the requirements.

ODogg, brotha, you have to be nearly blind to sit that close to a large tv man...

My sister has a huge living room and the space but only a 32" tv for example. Then I have a large tv but only 5 1/2 feet of space.

BTW - it's cool to note that the review says 3 feet for Move, so my 5 1/2 feet shouldn't be any issue).
Really? I cant think of anyone I know who doesnt have at least 7ft between their couch in their big HDTV. I have at least 8.

Well, there are a few guys that have responded to this thread that only have a few feet between the two.....I guess it is what it is.

Yes, 6 feet from your TV is the bare minimum, 8 feet works perfectly. Yes you need open space, but Joystiq harping on it, it's pretty much a given. Unlike the Wii or even Move, there is no controller, it's all motion, all you moving as the controller, not sure how this is an issue that they are just now bringing up.

I have a very well lit room and it works fine, again, not sure on that. I've tried it in very bright situations and very dark ones, works fine both ways.

The technology is VERY impressive, especially the voice capabilities.

That being said, it's a novelty, it will wear off if the Wii wore off on you.

The games. Just going off what I've played.

Kinect Adventures is included for a reason, it's God awful terrible. Barely any fun, you'll play it for 10-15 minutes and probably never again. Just not a fun game.

I've seen some reviews bash Kinect Sports with Bowling, honestly, I found it more fun than Wii Bowling. Very, very fun game, love the volleyball as well. This is a game you definitely need room for, as you move all around the beach court that is on the ground.

Joy Ride. I can see it being fun, just never grabbed me like I hoped.

Will be trying out Kinectimals, Dance Central, and Yourself Fitness later tonight.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

My living room is only like 8' wide so my futon is against one wall and the tv against the other...I have like 6 1/2ish feet between where I'd put the sensor and the edge of my couch...where I'd be standing is definitely 5ish feet from the tv.

I'll pass for now, and I really wonder how they released this with such a big issue. Tons of apartments and condos have living rooms that won't have the allowable space, especially in big cities. It's not like a 10' or 12' square living room is common unless you have a house (which a lot of gamers do not)... Not about to buy this when I'm not sure it'll work in the space I have. Oh, and moving furniture to play a game is not a realistic option LOL

I think for many of you guys who think it's weird I sit "so close" to my 67" HDTV it's simply because you've not tried it. When I got my TV into my new place I told some folks how it was setup and they all said the same thing "oh that's way too close to the TV". However, when they came over and set in my home theater chair the first thing all of them said was "well that actually works pretty well!". Not one person i've ever had to my house has said the chairs are sitting too close to the television.

I had a 65" DLP Mitsubishi 2 yrs ago, and if I sat anywhere near that close to the TV, it made me nauseas. Granted, different strokes for different folks, but I had to be a good 12-15' from the TV with that size of set. Right now I'm sitting around 12' from my 42" TV, and it's a tad small. A 55-60" set would be fine to me at this distance. I'm losing a lot of space where I'm moving to, so a 47" set is about perfect for the distance I'll be sitting.

I've tried it... and that's exactly why I think it's crazy. But that's me, and I'm not you... and that's all that matters

                            Re: Kinect Reviews

Setup for me went fine. Initial setup was really quick. I went into the more detailed calibration for poops and giggles but it was working fine with out it. I actually have the reverse problem of many, my preferred sitting spot is actually too far from the kinect. I haven't tried to see if I can make that part work better. I usually keep most of the lights off when gaming and it has zero problems with that during the day. I will have to see how it does at night.

The voice command works from everywhere and it is a beautiful thing.

Just getting started on the actual gaming but the most detail oriented game I bought; Your Shape; works extremely well. I wear glasses and have a fat boy build and it scans and reads me perfectly.

Not enough space will definitely be a problem for some but if you have the space, the Kinect has ton of potential. It can be easy to setup. Time will tell if that is the norm or an exception.

Wonder if the Kinect can RRoD!?!?!?!

Oh and just FYI guys, I've got a 60" in the bedroom and that's about 9 feet from me. I wanted it closer but that's just impossible with the layout in there. It's ok though..
