    PS3 System options suggestions?

Well, I've cleared house on a bunch of components and I want to put the money toward a PS3, but I'm confused in light of my wants/needs.... So maybe some of these questions could help some of you give me some suggestions......

*Slim or not slim? It seems for appearance and space saving, Slim is the way to go, but what are the other advantages. I'm not real concerned about backward capability, so that's not a factor. Any other concerns about slim vs. fat?

*Move --- I see there are complete bundles (Move & console), but maybe simply buying the Move bundle alone (or some type of mega-accessory bundle w/o the console) is the way to go. I'm not sure I see a big price advantage to buying a complete bundle.

*Storage size --- I'm not seeing where one can UL movies, shows, music etc. to the PS3 HDD, or am I missing something. If I can't (and I'm not going to get a huge glut of games) what's the advantage of larger HDD if I can't do that?

*Rock Band accessories --- I'm seeing that the new Rock Band (or is it out?) is going to involved keyboards. I think we're past the drums here and a keyboard, guitar and mic package would be ideal.... anything like that?

I think that's it for now..... I have been able to play around with my nephew's system for a time and the networking coordination was very easy... I was able to get it to talk to my PlayOn and Vuze media programs with relative ease.

Any other concerns about slim vs. fat? If BC Doesn't matter Go slim. It's quieter and in my experience more reliable. Also has more gb. The three advantges of the orig 60gig over my new slim 120gig are memroy card slots, 4 USB ports, Backward Comp. But I'll take reliability and Quieter system over those anyday.

*Move --- I see there are complete bundles (Move & console), but maybe simply buying the Move bundle alone (or some type of mega-accessory bundle w/o the console) is the way to go. Not sure what you mean here, but the larger HDD is for DL'ing games/movies/music etc... The more the better IMO. Movies/Game DL's from the PS-Store.

*Rock Band accessories --- I'm seeing that the new Rock Band (or is it out?) is going to involved keyboards. I think we're past the drums here and a keyboard, guitar and mic package would be ideal.... anything like that? Not sure. Sorry

Basically, I already have movie, TV show, picture and music files. I would want to UL them to the PS3. I see a movie editor, but that's about all.

Picture and Music Files can be uploaded. But I'm pretty sure you can't upload Movies/TV shows/Games. I think those can only be downloaded buy purchasing from the PS store. I could be wrong though. I've never tried with Movies etc...

Considering the only new system you can buy is a slim, you don't really have a choice. I would definitely not buy a used system, your chances are more than good at getting a system that has been YLOD patched, and those patches don't hold long.

Buying the bundle gets you more for your money, buying the move system bundle gets you twice the HDD space for the same price as the standalone system with move bundle. As for the move bundle itself, it will save you about $30 compared to buying everything separate assuming you want the included game. You could probably wait and I'm sure there will be some specials run for the holidays.

          You can.

I have no clue. I think I read somewhere that the bundle with all instruments was exclusive to the 360, the PS3 version was without the keyboard, but there wasn't really any money saved vs buying the keyboard separate.

I tend to move videos to the PS3 rather than streaming them, it just works better.

            Re: PS3 System options suggestions?

Slim or fat: The only advantage for the ps3 fat is that its cheaper. Depending on where you live, you may find stores still selling ps3 fat at real low prices. I saw a Sony store selling 80gb for $199 just a week ago. If not, go buy the slim move bundle. Everything you need is in it (320gb, dual shock controller, move bundle).

Storage Size: I've put most of my movies, music, and photos on my ps3. If you run out of storage an external hard drive is also an option. Just plug it in the usb port and you got access to everything you saved on it (movies, music, photos).

Rock band 3:: The only bundle I'm seeing is the keyboard bundle selling for $129(game+keyboard). I guess you can just buy the guitar and mic separately.

              Re: PS3 System options suggestions?

To move movies to the PS3 HDD, you go to the movies on your media hub and hit triangle, it gives you the copy movie option (and also copy multiple for batch transfers).

For those who end up with HD metroska files (.mkv) files, download http://www.3r1c.eu/mkv2vob/mkv2vob.exe and it will mux the files to PS3 readable mpg in no time.

Looks like you can get about the same thing in store for the same price, without the stupid Ninja game.
                  Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60

Hmmm... I plug my Lacie externall HDD and it didn't seem to recognize, unless I was doing something wrong in the ctrl panel.

edit: actually I found that it has to be fat32 partitioned and found this posting elsewhere:

no your not screwed, just download this program:
CNET Download provides free downloads for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android devices across all categories of software and apps, including security, utilities, games, video and browsers

                    install it.
plug your hard drive in your pc open the program.
click your drive in the devices list.
                    click format to erase everything.
once finished click partition type and select primary and then file system and select fat32.
drag the bar to the right of the pie chart all the way to the bottom, so the whole pie chart turns blue.
                    click create.
make folders on your hard drive like:
                    PS3->VIDEO->then put your videos there.
it will format the whole drive.

When I had comcast this worked great! I loved it but now I'm with ATT and their router doesn't seem to support it.

This is what you are talking about correct?

                          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS3_Media_Server

I notice the PC does not recognize the PS3 in the same way as the 360 (Windows 7 64-bit). Even though it shows the Windows Media icon on the PS3 when activated.

I assume this program allows for it to work?
