Not to be outdone NHL joins the ranks of live streaming of there product to PS3 owners. Along with a host of other great features. NHL fans be on the lookout for the NHL Gamecenter app for the PS3.

Yeah this app looks awesome! Definitely more robust than the MLB.tv app. I would kill to have all the stats and classic games for MLB. That's a baseball man's dream! LOL

Hi Everyone – I’m excited to announce that the NHL is streaming its way onto the PS3! Beginning today, all PS3 users in the United States and Canada can download the new NHL GameCenter application, an exclusive offer for PS3 users making it the first and only gaming console to stream live hockey games in HD.

NHL GameCenter LIVE subscribers who enjoy free access to PlayStation Network and its variety of online content, can now stream live out-of-market regular season and select playoff game broadcasts in HD by downloading the NHL GameCenter application on the PS3 system. In addition to offering live hockey games, NHL GameCenter LIVE also allows subscribers to watch full-length and condensed replays of the current season games they missed (48 hours after they air, no blackouts) and relive NHL history with unlimited access to over 500 classic games from NHL Vault. You can download the NHL application for $9.99 and access it under the “Video” icon on the XMB menu. However, if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you can download the NHL GameCenter application for free, continuing PlayStation’s goal to deliver exclusive opportunities only made available to PlayStation Plus members.


If you aren’t an NHL GameCenter LIVE subscriber, you can sign up by visiting www.ps3.com/nhl to get an account and ultimately link it to your PS3 using a registration code obtained through the app on your device. NHL GameCenter LIVE is priced at $169 (U.S.) for an annual subscription and includes the NHL Vault service. NHL Vault is also available separately for $4.95 (U.S.) a month.

Only crappy part, just like with MLB.TV is blackouts. Blackouts are the biggest BS in the industry.

Now if I ever move out of the "local area" which seems to cover damn regions... then they are well worth the investment.

Yeah blackouts suck big time, LOL. It works really well for me, just for the reason you said... living in California, I get to keep tabs on my Tigers and Red Wings.

I wonder if you use a proxy server and hide behind it, if it will work?!?

I have to look it up. Because that could be a way around the blackout issues. Especially if you pay for the package. You should be able to view all the games, IMO. Just as you would be able to if you bought a package on the Dish Network.

Saw this on the PS Store and thought, "Wow! Just 9.99$ for this?" But I decided to read on, and you have to have a NHL GameCenter LIVE subscription, on top of the 9.99 for non-PSN Plus users (it's 169$ for a year subscription). Not bad, I was hoping for a free trial or something because I'm cheap. Maybe one day. Plus, I'd have to figure out if I'd get the Flyers games. Otherwise, not much point. Yeah I'll watch other games every now and then, but I"m a Flyers fan without cable to watch them currently, so this would be my main source. But if they're blacked out or whatever, no point. I'm not quite sure how blackouts work anyway...

I hate blackouts with a passion. The worst thing is when your a fan of a team that is far away, and then one of your local teams is playing them. You don't receive coverage of the game from your local team, for whatever reason, and therefor you can't watch the game at all.

I couldn't watch ANY game involving a team from Philadelphia, as I don't receive any channels that cover their games. I'm not a Philly fan, but it's annoying when I want to watch a game that involves them.

Seems like blackouts are universal now. Used to be that blackouts only applied if the games weren't sold out to encourage attendance. But that's from a different time era when tickets didn't cost an arm and a leg either... seems ridiculous now in this day and age the way that coverage of anything and everthing goes.

yeah if I was a fan of the locally covered giants then blackouts would have me seriously reconsidering MLB.TV for the next season. As it is, I'm a Yankee fan so it's all good. But I am a Sharks follower and that pretty much throws this out of the window for me.
