yeah that's what i'm shooting for.. if I spend $150-250, I'd think they need to last 3-5 years. I'm pretty gentle with my equipment and they will only see light to moderate use.. I'm looking hard at the Astro A40's but they are waaaay up there in price. The Tritton AX-720s are my back up plan if I'm trying not to break the bank.

Bought some Turtle Beach X11's about 2 weeks ago and love them! Black Ops and NCAA 12 sound so much better.

I have a quick question hopefully someone can answer. Is it worth it to buy the <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Force-Channel-Dolby-Surround-Processor-Mac/dp/B003O0KICS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1313313245&sr=8-3>Ear Force DSS Processor</a>?

Was curious if it makes the sound that much better.

Are there any headphones that work good for both the 360 and PS3? I have both in the same entertainment unit and what I want to do is just pick up the headphones, turn either xbox or PS3 on and have it work. ANything like that?

I'm wondering this too.. If anyone actually has a good solution, please post your setup.
My little bit of reading has come up with this:

I think one option will be to get a optical cable splitter switch.. hook an optical cable to both systems and move the switch when you change systems..

Another option would be to hook up the headset unit optical cable to the back of the TV -optical out (with HDMIs going from 360 to TV, and PS3 to TV) and that should give you sound without having to mess with switching anything.. BUT the issue is whether or not the TV will pass through dolby digital surround sound through the optical out.. some TVs do and some don't. otherwise it would just be 2 channel stereo output..

edit: wait a sec.. aukevin is right. you can just plug the headset unit to the optical OUT on the receiver... hmm, now we're talking.. that should work..

My Turtle Beach PX5's work that way. I plug the receiver into an optical port on my A/V receiver and then what ever channel that is set to is what sound comes through the headphones. So my remote automatically sets the receiver to the correct input when I want to play PS3, XBox, TV, whatever. So I guess as long as you get a set that has a receiver that can plug into your receiver (assuming you have one), the receiver will handle the switching for you.

My receiver is on the other TV downstairs. Ugh.

I bought the X41's last year from Amazon for around $150 I believe. They work great and are pretty amazing. Problem for me was though I've used them rarely.

When I had both systems I used a optical cable splitter like this,

I had both systems hooked up to my Tritton 720s this way and everything worked just fine.

I got one of these and haven't had any luck with it...I know it works sometimes for people, but i've seen online that I'm not alone. I have to tinker with it more and try different cables, but kinda got tired of messing with it

Just picked these up yesterday and I like them alot. Better sound than the X11 I mentioned above^^^

Only thing I don't like about them is the ear cups being circular instead of oval. Don't know why the hell Turtle Beach decided to make the 41's circular. All the rest of their headsets are oval shaped! Why not these?!?!

When I'm wearing them, I get this feeling like my ear doesn't fit all the way inside the padding.

Take them back.. Turtle Beaches are awful.. I've had 3 set of TB's and they've all broken within 6 months. Get Trittons or Astros. They have better sound and build quality and better features overall. Astros are expensive, but they're the best no question. Tritton AX720s are $130 and they're far superior to the X41s so I recommend 720s to everyone, I have a pair myself that have lasted me the past year, they're fantastic.

                            Re: Gaming headsets

i just splurged and ordered the Astro A30s with the wireless mixamp 5.8. I'll let you guys know how awesome it is once it gets here.

I went with the A30s instead of the A40s for a couple reasons:
                            1. b/c they were ~$70 cheaper,
                            2. I found a 15% discount code that was about to expire and the A40s were out of stock,
                            3. I will use the A30s for music too.. The A30s are smaller and look much more 'normal' than the A40s but they are said to have pretty much identical sound qualities. (Some say the A30s have a little more bass)

I figure if I end up using them for gaming a ton, I can always add the A40s later down the line (if I miss having an over-the-ears headset) since I'll already have the mixamp. (The A30s are 'on-the-ear')

I agree 100% with your post. I ran through three TB's in a year. Same problem everytime with the wires getting pinches going to the earpiece and either losing hearing capability or the mic capability. Recently bought a pair of the AX720's and they are the best thing I have ever used, very comfortable and very good sound quality.
