Yup, and the addition of that analog stick... this thing is going to be a day one purchase for me.

Hopefully gamestop will at least give me like $20 for my ds lite, lol.

Saving the best for last, there was one final demo I played before I was ushered out of the 3DS booth. With only 2 spots to see it and apparently often overlooked, I had a wonderful look at something that has been an interest of mine for a long time: augmented reality. A card was placed on the table before me, marked with a Mario Bros “?” block. Using the cameras on the back of the 3DS, I was instructed to look through the 3DS at the card and calibrate it from a distance of 14″. Once completed, I was blown away: the card “opened” up and a colorful tropical island unfolded from the table itself, using the table’s textures applied to 3D elements. Bulls-eye targets then popped up, and I use the 3DS to “aim” at the targets and press the buttons to fire arrows and blast the targets. I even had to walk around the virtual island to see targets on all sides. I was flat-out blown away, and constantly had to peek around the 3DS to remind myself that it was all virtual. Holy crap, do I want a 3DS now.

Here is some more info:

ll the rumor and speculation can finally come to an end.

During Nintendo's presentation in Japan today, the company announced the 3DS will go on sale in Japan on February 26, 2011. The unit will cost 25,000 yen ($300). The system will be available in Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black.



Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that the 3DS will be out in March 2011 in its own territories and that it will confirm further details at a later date, while we await confirmation of a US release date from Nintendo of America.

I read that it might be around $229 here in the U.S. due to the yen.

Wow, they're missing the holiday season. That's going to be a big blow for Nintendo.

Apple's going to continue to sell ipods this fall and game sales are going to continue to rise for them. I'm sure the suits at Nintendo are not happy with this.

Normally I'd agree, but I just can't shake the feeling of "this is a Nintendo handheld device... nothing could prevent this thing from selling like hot cakes".

We'll see I guess... I certainly don't think a Holiday release would have HURT.

That's what I'm getting at though... it could have had months more to sell like hotcakes.

And holiday season sales are nothing to overlook. All you see are mom and dads buying their kids a DS during this season... Imagine all that being pumped into the 3DS.

Now, a kid has a DS.. what's something that is cool and useful to them as well? An iPod touch...

You're more likely to update your kid's iPod now than their gaming system...

That's probably true. Plus, all these parents will STILL probably buy a DS for Christmas... then suddenly in April the 3DS comes out. I doubt they are going to shell out MORE money for a system when they just bought one for Christmas.
