    Unreal Engine 3

I don't know if any of you guys have heard or seen the trailer. I'm sure those in the know have seen a few around. Today was the day that they sent out the updated development kit. I'm assuming this would be more of a norm for what we would be expecting for the next generation of gaming for the most part. Seeing that the only other company that would have been competing against **** has made the decision to make their engine only in-house, this should be what we are expecting for following titles. I personally think it looks good but I'm interested to see how it plays.

Any thoughts on this stuff? Wonder when the next game will display this stuff. Maybe Too Human Too?? LOL!!

    Re: Unreal Engine 3

The graphics in that game look incredible. So is that how future 360 and PS3 games are going to look? Or will those graphics only be available for next-next gen consoles?

The one thing that worries me is hearing so many developers say they've tapped both consoles already.
So if they can up the graphics does that mean gameplay will suffer?

I've gotten to the point where I don't even care about graphics that much anymore. I just want fun and original games.
It seems once I've gotten over how pretty a game looks, I don't even notice. All I know is if the game is fun or not.

As an example, when Red Dead Redemption came out and it was revealed that all these organic situations were removed (whole town being dead for days after murdering everyone, kids of people you've killed coming back for revenge, etc) I was pretty bummed out.
I suggested making a truly open ended game where every action really did have a butterfly affect.
Many here said that's nearly impossible based on limited resources of current gen machines.
So if/when the Xbox 720 and PS4 come out, I'd rather the devs work on making more immersive and robust games instead of making sure we can see every pore and bead of sweat on a person's face.

The graphics are pretty great. I don't think they can accomplish that on the 360 or PS3 just yet. I'm sure it would be a great immersion factor. I think that the computers will be able to run this. It's suppose to be Direct X 11 I think. That's the next one coming out right?

The thing about developers saying they've tapped the consoles is a load of crock. There is always more power to get out of a system. I mean, look at some of those games closer to the end of the PS2's cycle. One of the titles that I remember a lot of developers being amazed of was that Path of Neo title where they had more players on the screen than they were told they would be able to originally put on there. I'm sure we'll start to see even more advancements with the next few titles coming out.

Seems like a lot of times gameplay does seem to suffer a bit more than it should because resources are focused on something else. I wonder if they will make it easier to make the games beautiful which will allow more time to be focused on the gameplay. I'm wondering which games will start adopting this graphical technology. I also wonder if the physics will also be an added factor with this updated tech.

I didn't know that Red Dead had the organic situations removed. How come they took that approach? I definitely will check that when I have a chance. Of course, the excuse for every console that will be made from now until the end of time will be that the console won't be able to do this and that because it's not capable enough. Definitely will hope that they think outside the box.

Same here. After the first couple years the novelty of how good a game looks starts to wear off. I remember being in awe of games like Gears of War and Mass Effect, but now I just care about how good the games actually play. I went through the same thing with the PS2 and Xbox as well.

As for the consoles being "maxed out" or whatever was said, I hope that isn't the case. Personally I think the 360 either has been or is close to being at that point. I think the PS3 still has a lot more left in the tank because of the fact it uses the Blu-Ray discs and with how they're consistently updating the system with new firmware. And obviously the Wii has been at it's limit for awhile now.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a new Nintendo and Xbox system within the next 3 years.
