This practice doesn't bother me, especially when Nintendo purposefully ships only a selected number of consoles.

Nintendo doesn't purposefully ship a limited number of consoles. You can only crank out so many. At one point, the rate of Wii production was higher than any console ever. There were more Wiis available in the first year than any other console in history, and it was also the fastest console ever to 20 million sold in the US. There were months that the Wii was selling more consoles in the US than Sony or MS were in a quarter.

The demand for the Wii was insane, and maybe only Apple has had to deal with something like that for years. Retailers also took advantage of the shortages by holding stock for holidays and forcing bundles.

Pre-orders do look like they are pretty much done in the US. This thing looks to be hot. EG is going to make a lot of money with those units lol.

I don't know. I wonder how many people got preorders just to flip though. Outside the preorders selling fast, the wiiu just doesn't seem to have as much mainstream hype the wii did. People flipping the ps3 on ebay got burned by more supply than demand.

I will disagree with EG and Jason. I don't think the premium is that good a deal. I guess they are bundling HDMI cables with the basic package (worth only $5 online anyway) so that's not an extra. Stands and charging stations - don't care. Those are things I have never purchased for any system. And that $50 game is worth maybe $20. It's a glorified demo that I don't want. Extra memory? You can get a 16 GB SD card for $10 on Amazon.

I can understand guys wanting those extras and for $50 it's OK but I just view all of those things like $50 of crap I don't need or want. It's certainly not worth $100 imo. Other than the larger hard drive which can be upgraded really cheap I don't want it. I'd rather put that $50 towards a game for the kids.

Nintendo Land (Haven't really seen much, could be a Mario Party with Nintendo characters, a family game) = $20 value in your eyes, $50-$60 Retail?

Charging Station for a special controller like the Wii U (does it have like a proprietary connector like the WiiMote connector? Or basics like USB, microUSB, etc.) = about $20-30

16 GB more memory (Wii U has flash memory like iPhones? Or SD Card slots like Wii)= $10 in your eyes, $20 in a lot of companies

Basic Version = $300
Premium Version = $350

IMO, Premium deal is a good deal. VERY GOOD deal. But I understand your opinion.

ZombiU hands-on: the Dark Souls of zombie games

One of the magic ingredients that makes a good survival horror game even better is making the player feel dangerously under-resourced, pathetically weak, and continually on the backfoot at all times. If this stresses you out, then ZombiU is not the game for you.

It has been absolutely engineered with hardcore gamers in mind, mixing the continuous dread of games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent with unforgiving trial and error format of Dark Souls. You will die a lot, but with each death you will learn what not to do next time.

There’s also a flashlight that runs down mercilessly fast, and it takes ages to recharge. Once it’s off, the sewers are seriously pitch black, which is why the Wii U GamePad’s radar screen is helpful for spotting movement in the dark.

Opening your backpack is activated by simply swiping down on the touch screen, but it renders you immobilised.

You can then drag your favourite items to the hot bar and organise loot gathered from corpses. You only have so many slots, so resource management is yet another problem facing your survivor.

This is where both the respawn and safehouse mechanics come into play. Safehouses do exactly what they suggest – they are respawn zones that play home to crafting benches and lockers that can be used to stash precious loot.

Lockers are crucial, because when you die and respawn as a different survivor, you lose everything – save for your cricket bat, flashlight and a pistol with just six rounds. Back at your point of death, your previous survivor reanimates as a zombie carrying all of your gear.

When wading through water, your survivor lifts their backpack overhead to keep it dry, leaving you utterly defenceless and unable to attack. Rushing through the ravaged streets of London is a recipe for disaster and should be avoided at all cost.

Every inch of the game smacks of Dark Souls, and this comparison is highlighted further by ZombiU’s messaging system, which lets you walk up to walls and leave graffiti tag messages for other players online.

These aren’t actual words, but symbols. So you could select the ‘stairs’ icon and a ‘thumbs down’ – to basically say ‘don’t go downstairs’. There are many symbol combinations geared towards highlighting hazards or killer loot, so it will be interesting to see how these are used – or abused – once servers go live.

Finally – and this is a stroke of genius on Ubisoft Montreal’s part – once one of your survivors dies and then reanimates as a zombie, there’s a chance they will also spawn into your friends’ game too.

So you can hop on Miiverse and say, ‘hey I died at this location holding a brilliant weapon. Go find me to claim it’, and vice-versa. It’s a neat way of sharing weapons and collaborating with other players to beat the game.

I have to apologize. I had NintendoLand confused with another game. There are some decent mini games in there. Still don't think it's a full priced game but maybe worth more than $20.

I'm a little concerned about the 24 ft of range for the gamepad. That's not as far as it seems. The battery life isn't a big deal thanks to the charge station. I can't remember the last time I played something for 5 hrs straight without stopping.

That does seem a bit limited. What is the range for a dual shock controller?

The gamepad does burn quickly. 3-5 hours of play time and it takes 2.5 hours for a full charge? That's not a good ratio.

Dual Shock is about 32ft Bluetooth range. I have used mine a bit farther however.

24ft is pretty decent if you measure on the ground. Although I can see its limitations if you wanna "remote play" a game in your bedroom at night and it's more than 25ft in your living room.

The charging and use times are a bit cumbersome.
