Even if that rumor is true, they are competing with 5-6 year old machines so it's not that impressive. Also, Japanese developers seem to have no idea what to do with online systems so I won't be holding my breath on Nintendo suddenly realizing that they have no idea how to run an intuitive and worthwhile online system.

Re: New Nintendo Console in 2012?
If those specs that were released by that French site are true... there is no way it is 80% more. But we will see.Rumor is it could be 80% more powerful than the 360
Nintendo online stinks now. But don't you think that's an area they will improve upon if they want to compete?
As far as third party games, its sales that matters. Money buys relationships.
Sure they can try and improve upon it (online)... and may, but Nintendo profits 100% all the time. They profit off their sales, and their sales alone. Their first party. Thus why I don't see them having a desire to push upon that. Like they have not been over the last 2 generations. Third party or robust online like PSN/Live.
But yes, it would be nice to see. And hopefully happens.Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 04-19-2011, 10:15 PM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: New Nintendo Console in 2012?
Exactly. Nintendo had a chance to change the perception of it's online system with the 3DS...guess what? Friend codes!
Not bying it either that all of a sudden the new Wii will be this juggernaut of a system and have all this 3rd party support.
We heard that for the Nintendo 64...fail
Heard it for the Gamecube...fail
Heard it for the Wii...fail
Loved the NES and SNES, 2 of my favorite systems of all time, but their last 3 have been utter failures outside of 2-3 games total for each system.
Fool 3 times Nintendo, not again.Comment

Re: New Nintendo Console in 2012?
This supposedly "reliable" source reports that Nintendo is getting third parties developers on board for the new console.
More Project Cafe Rumors
-Square Enix, Capcom, Sega, Konami, Activision, Rockstar/Take Two, Electronic Arts, Namco and Ubisoft all have development kits.
-They each have at least one game in development for the Wii 2.
-Expect games to be coming to this system that you would never expect on a Nintendo console.
-Nintendo is kissing third party ****s with this console.
-Expect Nintendo to roll out the red carpet for third parties so their games don’t get overshadowed. Nintendo has been preaching to third parties that third parties won’t get screwed this time around, so if you’re expecting a ton of amazing first party games at launch…well…think again. Nintendo wants a launch that creates confidence in third parties again so expect very few first party games at launch.Comment

Sounds cool and all. But their average fanbase doesn't buy it for third party games.
So ultimately it may not mean much and may be too little too late. Especially when most of the core gamers will wait for PS4/XBox3.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: New Nintendo Console in 2012?
Wii 1.5
But the other next-gen consoles may not arrive until 2014. And lesser graphics did not hurt the Wii sales. It's like the Wii is not in direct competition with MS and Sony. They do their own thing. The controller at least sounds very interesting, and rather intuitive... However, the rest of the technical specifications are very worrying, especially for those who like shiny new graphics....
simply put, according to this rumor Nintendo is using older hardware to give a gaming experience to users, which will be nowhere near as good looking as the other next generation consoles.Comment

Re: New Nintendo Console in 2012?
2 Year Head Start
Clearly, Sony and Microsoft do not consider the new Nintendo console as a direct competitor in the same way that they do each other. They have reason for that, as the Xbox 360 and PS3 are widely referred to together as “the HD consoles” while the Wii sits on its own.
But this is a new console from Nintendo, which will in fact be HD, and apparently will be more powerful than the current HD consoles...
Remember how far ahead the Xbox 360 has remained in sales over the PS3 in the states? That had a lot to do with the fact that it was released a year ahead of time. Two years could be enough to give Nintendo a significant lead in the coming generation.
One of the biggest factors in this situation could be 3rd party interest. If these dates ring true, then developers who want to continue their successful IPs with a more powerful console may feel compelled to knock on Nintendo’s door.Comment

Lesser graphics didn't hurt their sales but barely anyone who plays games often used the Wii as their primary console.Wii 1.5

Project Cafe: The Tech Behind Nintendo's Next Console
More details of Nintendo's forthcoming console, codenamed Project Cafe aka Wii 2, have been revealed to IGN, including the system's estimated pricing, release, console design, processing architecture, and name.
According to sources with knowledge of the project, Nintendo's next console could have a retail price of anywhere between $350 and $400 based on manufacturing costs, and will ship from Taiwanese manufacturer, Foxconn, this October, putting the earliest possible retail release anywhere between mid-October and early November.
However, Nintendo could also opt to build up a sizable supply of the system and allocate more time for software and games development by launching in early 2012. Similarly, Nintendo could attempt to lower the retail price of the system with lower profit margins to make the price more alluring.
Since the manufacturing is taking place in Taiwan, the earthquakes and tsunami that hit Japan last month will not impact the console hardware as previously expected.
Our Sources
Head over to Scott Lowe's blog to find out why we trust our sources and so should you.
Additionally, IGN has learned that the system will be based on a revamped version of AMD's R700 GPU architecture, not AMD's Fusion technology as previously believed, which will, as previously reported, out perform the PlayStation 3's NVIDIA 7800GTX-based processor. Like the Xbox 360, the system's CPU will be a custom-built triple-core IBM PowerPC chipset, but the clocking speeds will be faster. The system will support 1080p output with the potential for stereoscopic 3D as well, though it has not been determined whether that will be a staple feature.
In terms of the design of the console itself, the overall size will be comparable to that of the original Xbox 360 and the system is likely to resemble a modernized version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).
As reported last week, it will indeed utilize controllers with integrated touchscreens and be capable of streaming games to each controller, though given the power of the system, could also feasibly provide a virtualized console for each individual unit.
Finally, Nintendo is considering naming the console Stream, though it is potentially one of several names currently being vetted by the company.
We contacted Nintendo representatives, but they declined to comment on "rumors or speculation."Comment

So they go from the Wii to the Stream? Is Nintendo just purposely trying to make dick jokes here?Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Neither do I. I don't know how they came to the conclusion that "Nintendo Wii" was a better sounding name than "Nintendo Revolution". They should just use it for this new system.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Any rumors on the specs of the system with regard to system RAM, video RAM, RAM clock speed, number of cores, clock speed of the cores, onboard storage space and speed, etc.?Rumor is it could be 80% more powerful than the 360
Nintendo online stinks now. But don't you think that's an area they will improve upon if they want to compete?
That kind of clock speed on the video card would be very nice, but it by no means would tell the whole story and by itself would not make the system "80% more powerful". Just saying.
As to the online, I'm sure Nintendo will come up with some sort of online facility (they'd be dumb not to, IMO), but having a nearly ten-year lag time behind the standard-bearer in the industry (XBOX Live) means they have a ton of catching up to do and that will take considerable resources and time.Comment
